Role Context
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide specialist digestive health care for patients with acute, chronic, and complex gastrointestinal conditions. The role supports accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, patient education, and long-term disease management by combining clinical expertise, evidence-based medicine, diagnostic interpretation, lifestyle guidance, and collaboration with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive gastroenterology consultations, including patient history review, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
* Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests to support accurate diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders
* Diagnose and manage digestive conditions including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, reflux disease, liver-related concerns, and other gastrointestinal conditions
* Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patient symptoms, diagnosis, risk factors, and long-term health goals
* Prescribe and manage medications while monitoring treatment response, side effects, and ongoing care needs
* Recommend dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, and preventive strategies to support digestive health
* Collaborate with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, radiologists, laboratory teams, and other specialists to ensure coordinated patient care
* Stay updated with current gastroenterology guidelines, research, treatment options, and clinical best practices
* Participate in conferences, workshops, continuous medical education activities, and professional development programs
* Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with DHA, regulatory, and hospital documentation standards
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, follow-up care, and expected outcomes
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited and recognized university
* Board certification in Gastroenterology
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist
* Western education or Western clinical training is mandatory
* Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority licensure is required
* Strong clinical expertise in managing complex gastrointestinal diseases and digestive disorders
* Solid knowledge of inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, IBS, reflux disease, and long-term digestive health management
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-care skills
* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in a multicultural environment
* Strong commitment to patient safety, evidence-based care, regulatory compliance, and continuous professional development
