The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide specialist medical care for patients experiencing acute, chronic, and complex digestive health conditions. The role requires strong diagnostic judgment, evidence-based treatment planning, and the ability to guide patients through long-term gastrointestinal care.
This position contributes directly to patient wellbeing by improving early diagnosis, symptom control, disease management, nutritional guidance, and prevention of complications. The consultant will work closely with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, radiologists, and other physicians to ensure coordinated care for patients with digestive and gastrointestinal disorders.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive gastroenterology consultations, including patient history review, physical examination, symptom assessment, and clinical risk evaluation.
* Diagnose and manage digestive system disorders, including Crohn\'s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux disease, abdominal pain, bowel disorders, and related gastrointestinal conditions.
* Order, interpret, and follow up on appropriate diagnostic investigations, laboratory tests, imaging, endoscopy-related findings, and other clinical reports.
* Create personalized treatment plans based on diagnosis, disease severity, patient history, medication response, dietary needs, and long-term health goals.
* Prescribe medications, monitor treatment effectiveness, adjust therapy when required, and provide guidance on safe medication use.
* Recommend dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, prevention strategies, and follow-up plans to support better digestive health outcomes.
* Collaborate with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, radiology teams, and other healthcare professionals for patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
* Manage patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases through regular monitoring, patient education, relapse prevention, and complication management.
* Stay updated with current gastroenterology research, clinical guidelines, treatment protocols, and advances in digestive disease care.
* Participate in conferences, workshops, clinical discussions, and continuing medical education activities to maintain specialist knowledge.
* Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, treatment plans, investigation results, and follow-up documentation.
* Support clinical quality, patient safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based standards within gastroenterology services.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited university.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Gastroenterology.
* Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
* Western education or Western clinical training is required.
* Strong knowledge of gastrointestinal diseases, digestive system disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, liver-related conditions, and chronic digestive care.
* Ability to assess complex clinical presentations and develop practical, patient-specific treatment plans.
* Confident communication skills for explaining diagnoses, treatment options, medication plans, dietary advice, and long-term care needs.
* Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, and allied healthcare professionals.
