Role Context
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide specialized medical care for patients with conditions affecting the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and wider digestive system. The position requires careful clinical evaluation, accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment planning, and strong coordination with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, and other specialists to support safe and effective patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess patients with digestive system symptoms through detailed history taking, physical examination, and clinical review.
* Diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders, including Crohn\'s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux symptoms, and related GI conditions.
* Order appropriate diagnostic tests and review laboratory results, imaging findings, endoscopy reports, and other clinical investigations.
* Develop personalized treatment plans based on patient condition, disease severity, medical history, and long-term care goals.
* Prescribe suitable medications and recommend dietary guidance, lifestyle changes, and prevention strategies where needed.
* Coordinate care with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient management.
* Provide clear explanations to patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, consultation notes, treatment plans, prescriptions, and follow-up documentation.
* Keep current with advances in gastroenterology research, clinical practice, and treatment standards.
* Participate in conferences, workshops, CME activities, and departmental learning initiatives to maintain high clinical standards.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited university.
* Board certification in Gastroenterology or an equivalent recognized specialist qualification.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
* Western education or training is required.
* Strong knowledge of digestive system diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate patient-care approach.
* Confident in working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in a hospital or specialist clinical setting.
