The Consultant Gastroenterologist - Endoscopy Care provides expert clinical care for patients with acute, chronic, and complex gastrointestinal conditions. The role involves comprehensive assessment, diagnostic review, endoscopic intervention, treatment planning, patient education, and ongoing follow-up for digestive and hepatobiliary disorders.

The consultant will help improve diagnosis, symptom control, complication prevention, and long-term patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, liver, pancreatic, bowel, stomach, and esophageal conditions.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology consultations for acute digestive complaints, chronic gastrointestinal disorders, and complex referral cases.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, biopsy, and ERCP where clinically applicable.
* Interpret imaging, laboratory results, endoscopic findings, pathology reports, and clinical data to create evidence-based treatment plans.
* Diagnose and manage conditions such as reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver disorders, bowel habit changes, abdominal pain, polyps, and hepatobiliary conditions.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, dietitians, internal medicine physicians, nurses, and allied health teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Participate in on-call duties as required by the department, including urgent gastroenterology consultations and emergency endoscopic support.
* Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment options, medication use, dietary changes, lifestyle modification, screening needs, and follow-up care.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure reports, treatment plans, consent records, investigation summaries, and follow-up documentation in line with DHA requirements.
* Contribute to departmental quality improvement, clinical audits, infection control, patient safety initiatives, and evidence-based service development.
* Support training and mentorship of junior doctors, residents, nurses, and allied health staff involved in gastroenterology services.
* Stay updated with advancements in gastroenterology, endoscopy, digestive disease treatment, and minimally invasive techniques.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Gastroenterology.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in gastroenterology and endoscopy.
* Strong proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, and ERCP where applicable.
* Solid clinical knowledge of gastrointestinal disorders, hepatobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, liver-related conditions, and digestive system care.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, fast-paced clinical environment with multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong communication, patient counselling, clinical documentation, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
