Role Context
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide specialist care for patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders across inpatient and outpatient settings. The position requires strong clinical evaluation, advanced endoscopic capability, accurate interpretation of diagnostic findings, and close collaboration with other medical specialties to ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients with gastrointestinal, liver, biliary, pancreatic, and related digestive system conditions.
* Manage a wide range of GI disorders through accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment planning, and structured follow-up care.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, and ERCP where applicable.
* Interpret imaging reports, laboratory results, endoscopic findings, biopsies, and other investigations to guide patient management.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology consultations for routine, urgent, and complex cases.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, dietitians, nurses, and allied health teams to deliver integrated care.
* Participate in on-call duties and provide timely specialist input for acute gastroenterology presentations when required.
* Educate patients on disease prevention, medication use, lifestyle changes, dietary measures, and treatment options.
* Maintain accurate medical records, procedure reports, consultation notes, and follow-up documentation in line with healthcare regulations.
* Contribute to quality improvement programs, clinical audits, departmental reviews, and patient safety initiatives.
* Support the training and mentorship of junior doctors, residents, and allied health professionals.
* Stay updated with new developments in gastroenterology, endoscopy techniques, and clinical best practices.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Gastroenterology or an equivalent recognized consultant-level qualification.
* Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in gastroenterology and endoscopy.
* Strong proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
* Eligible for relevant healthcare licensing at consultant level.
* Confident in managing gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders in hospital-based clinical settings.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.
