Role Context
The Consultant - Gastroenterology will provide specialist care for patients with digestive, liver, pancreatic, and gallbladder disorders across outpatient and inpatient settings. The role includes diagnostic assessment, therapeutic endoscopy, disease management, follow-up care, patient education, and clinical coordination with multiple specialties. The consultant will support strong patient outcomes in Dubai by combining advanced gastroenterology expertise, clear communication, accurate documentation, and a compassionate approach to culturally diverse patients.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and digestive system.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, bleeding control, and other approved endoscopy interventions.
* Manage common and complex gastroenterology cases including IBS, IBD, GERD, liver diseases, hepatology concerns, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient history, examination findings, laboratory results, imaging, endoscopy reports, and clinical priorities.
* Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide structured follow-up for chronic and acute digestive disorders.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for patients requiring specialist gastroenterology input.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, dietitians, internal medicine specialists, nurses, endoscopy staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, procedure preparation, preventive care, diet, lifestyle modification, medication use, and follow-up needs.
* Maintain accurate patient records, consultation notes, procedure reports, consent documentation, discharge summaries, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure all clinical care follows DHA regulations, hospital protocols, infection control standards, patient safety requirements, and ethical medical practice.
* Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, case discussions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Supervise junior medical staff when required and support a culture of learning, accountability, and safe clinical practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification recognized by DHA.
* Board certification or fellowship in Gastroenterology.
* DHA License or DHA Eligibility Letter as Consultant Gastroenterologist.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-specialization experience in a reputed hospital or healthcare facility.
* Strong expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
* Experience managing IBS, IBD, GERD, liver diseases, hepatology cases, pancreatitis, and complex digestive disorders.
* Strong clinical judgment with the ability to manage both routine and high-complexity gastroenterology cases.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic or Hindi language ability is an advantage.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment.
* Strong documentation, counselling, teamwork, and follow-up planning skills.
