Role Context
The Consultant - Gastroenterology will provide specialized medical care for patients with diseases and disorders of the digestive system. The role involves comprehensive evaluation, accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, dietary and lifestyle guidance, and long-term follow-up for acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions. The consultant will help strengthen gastroenterology care in Dubai by combining Western training, evidence-based clinical practice, coordinated multidisciplinary support, and a patient-centered approach.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct thorough medical evaluations, including patient history review, physical examination, symptom assessment, and risk factor analysis.
* Diagnose and treat digestive system disorders, including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, GERD, IBS, abdominal pain, bowel disorders, and other gastrointestinal conditions.
* Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, laboratory results, imaging findings, and relevant gastroenterology investigations.
* Develop personalized treatment plans based on each patient’s condition, medical history, disease severity, lifestyle needs, and long-term health goals.
* Prescribe and manage medications for gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, acid-related conditions, and other digestive concerns.
* Recommend dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, preventive care strategies, and follow-up plans to support long-term digestive health.
* Provide ongoing monitoring for chronic gastrointestinal conditions and adjust treatment plans according to patient response and clinical progress.
* Collaborate with nurses, nutritionists, surgeons, radiologists, internal medicine physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, medication use, diet, disease prevention, and symptom management.
* Stay updated with the latest developments, techniques, and research in gastroenterology and digestive disease management.
* Participate in conferences, workshops, CME activities, departmental meetings, and professional development programs.
* Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, diagnostic reviews, treatment plans, prescriptions, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure all care follows DHA requirements, hospital or clinic protocols, patient safety standards, confidentiality rules, and ethical medical practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited university.
* Board certification in Gastroenterology.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Gastroenterology registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
* Western education or training is required.
* Strong expertise in diagnosing and treating Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and other gastrointestinal disorders.
* Ability to conduct detailed clinical evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans.
* Strong knowledge of medication management, dietary guidance, lifestyle counselling, and long-term digestive disease follow-up.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in a modern clinical environment.
