Role Context
The Consultant - Gastroenterology will provide specialist evaluation and treatment for patients with gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, gallbladder, and digestive system disorders. The role requires advanced clinical judgment, strong endoscopy skills, accurate diagnosis, careful follow-up, and clear patient communication. Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team in Dubai, the consultant will help improve digestive disease management, support preventive care, and contribute to safe, evidence-based gastroenterology services.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and related digestive organs.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
* Assess and treat conditions such as IBS, IBD, GERD, liver disease, hepatology cases, abdominal pain, digestive inflammation, and chronic gastrointestinal symptoms.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient history, clinical examination, investigations, imaging, endoscopy findings, and evidence-based medical standards.
* Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide follow-up care for acute and chronic digestive disorders.
* Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, dietitians, internal medicine physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
* Educate patients and families on diagnosis, medication use, nutrition guidance, preventive care, lifestyle modification, and long-term digestive health management.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure reports, treatment plans, consent records, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with DHA regulations, hospital protocols, patient safety standards, and clinical governance requirements.
* Participate in departmental meetings, continuing medical education, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audit activities.
* Supervise junior medical staff when required and support a culture of learning, accountability, and patient-focused care.
* Communicate clearly with patients from diverse backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality, compassion, and professional medical ethics.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DHA.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Gastroenterology.
* DHA license or DHA Eligibility Letter as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-specialization experience in a reputable hospital, clinic, or advanced healthcare facility.
* Strong expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
* Proven ability to manage gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, gallbladder, and digestive disorders.
* Experience with IBS, IBD, GERD, liver disease, and hepatology cases is preferred.
* Strong clinical decision-making skills with a patient-focused and evidence-based approach.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare setting.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic or Hindi language ability is an advantage.
