Role Context
The Consultant General Surgeon will provide expert surgical assessment, operative treatment, emergency response, and preoperative and postoperative care for patients requiring general surgery services in Dubai. The role supports patient safety, clinical confidence, timely intervention, and effective recovery through strong diagnostic judgement, Arabic patient communication, multidisciplinary coordination, and compliance with UAE healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform a wide range of elective and emergency general surgical procedures within approved clinical privileges
* Evaluate patients, diagnose surgical conditions, review investigations, and develop evidence-based treatment plans
* Lead preoperative assessment, surgical decision-making, postoperative monitoring, and recovery planning
* Collaborate with nursing teams, anesthesiologists, intensivists, radiologists, allied health professionals, and other specialists for coordinated patient care
* Communicate clearly with Arabic and English-speaking patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, recovery, and follow-up needs
* Provide consultant-level support for urgent surgical cases and multidisciplinary case discussions
* Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, consent documentation, operation notes, and follow-up plans in line with UAE healthcare standards
* Contribute to surgical audits, quality improvement programs, clinical governance, and patient safety initiatives
* Mentor junior surgeons, residents, and clinical team members through supervision, teaching, and CME participation
* Support culturally sensitive care within a diverse healthcare environment
* Apply strong surgical judgement while maintaining ethical practice, confidentiality, and patient-centered care
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution
* Completed specialty training in General Surgery
* Recognized board certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Arab Board, or equivalent
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialty experience, including consultant-level responsibility
* Eligible for a Dubai healthcare consultant license is preferred
* Fluency in Arabic and English is required
* Strong experience in elective surgery, emergency surgery, surgical assessment, and postoperative care
* Exceptional surgical judgement with a calm and patient-centered clinical approach
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare setting
* Strong communication, leadership, mentoring, and organizational skills
* Experience in women’s health-related surgical needs is an advantage
