Role Context
The Consultant General Surgeon is responsible for diagnosing surgical conditions, performing complex procedures, and ensuring safe patient recovery across a wide range of general surgery cases. This role strengthens hospital surgical services by leading operative care, mentoring junior clinicians, and contributing to quality improvement, governance, and multidisciplinary decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform a broad range of elective and emergency general surgical procedures with high clinical accuracy
* Assess patients, establish diagnoses, and develop effective surgical treatment plans
* Manage preoperative preparation and postoperative recovery in coordination with nursing and allied health teams
* Conduct daily ward rounds and review patient progress for safe and timely discharge planning
* Collaborate with anesthetists, physicians, radiologists, and specialists for complex case management
* Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure compliance with DHA regulations and hospital standards
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
* Support clinical governance and uphold patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical medical practice
* Mentor junior surgeons and contribute to continuing medical education and professional development programs
* Support women’s health-related surgical needs where applicable and clinically appropriate
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification with completed specialist training in General Surgery
* Recognized board certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Arab Board, or equivalent
* Minimum five years of post-specialty experience including consultant-level responsibilities
* Fluent Arabic and English communication skills are essential
* Eligibility for specialist licensing within UAE healthcare authority standards
* Strong decision-making ability and excellent surgical judgment
* Proven ability to work effectively within multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
* Experience in women’s health surgical procedures is considered an added advantage
