Role Context
The Consultant - ICU Critical Care will provide expert clinical care for critically ill adult patients in a high-acuity intensive care environment. The role supports ICU operations, rapid response systems, code blue management, and multidisciplinary care planning. Through strong procedural skills, clinical leadership, and quick decision-making, the consultant will help improve patient outcomes, safety standards, and the quality of critical care services in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage critically ill adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit.
* Provide advanced life support and critical care management for medical, surgical, trauma, respiratory failure, shock, and sepsis cases.
* Manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation, oxygen therapy, sedation, hemodynamic support, and organ support strategies.
* Perform critical care procedures including endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, bronchoscopy, and ventilator management.
* Lead multidisciplinary ICU rounds and coordinate individualized care plans for complex patient cases.
* Work closely with emergency medicine, anesthesiology, surgery, pulmonology, cardiology, infectious disease, nursing, and allied health teams.
* Participate in rapid response calls, code blue management, emergency escalation, and hospital emergency preparedness programs.
* Supervise junior physicians, residents, and ICU staff during patient assessment, clinical procedures, and treatment planning.
* Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection control practices, patient safety standards, MOH UAE regulations, and hospital policies.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation, progress notes, procedure records, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
* Contribute to ICU audits, clinical governance, research activity, quality improvement initiatives, and CME programs.
* Support teaching, mentoring, and clinical skill development within the intensive care team.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree recognized by MOH UAE.
* Board certification or fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anesthesia Critical Care, or Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
* Valid MOH UAE Consultant License or MOH UAE Eligibility Letter.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in ICU or critical care medicine within a tertiary care hospital.
* Strong expertise in ventilator management, sepsis management, shock management, organ support, and critical care procedures.
* Experience handling complex medical, surgical, trauma, and high-acuity emergency cases.
* ACLS certification is required, with additional critical care certifications preferred.
* Background in multidisciplinary ICU practice and high-acuity tertiary care environments.
* Exposure to ECMO, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and critical care ultrasound will be an advantage.
* Academic, teaching, audit, research, or departmental governance experience is preferred.
* Excellent communication, leadership, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multicultural healthcare environment.
