Role
This Consultant - Infectious Diseases position requires advanced expertise in bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, and emerging infections. The consultant will assess routine and complex cases, including sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, hospital-acquired infections, and infections affecting immunocompromised patients.
The physician will provide specialist guidance on antimicrobial selection, isolation procedures, outbreak response, and infection-control policies. Close coordination with internal medicine, intensive care, microbiology, public health, pharmacy, nursing, and other clinical departments will be central to the role.
What You\'ll Do
* Diagnose and manage infectious diseases in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and critical-care settings.
* Evaluate patients with bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, and communicable diseases.
* Lead the clinical management of complex cases involving sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis.
* Provide specialist care for immunocompromised patients and individuals with recurrent or difficult-to-treat infections.
* Review clinical histories, laboratory findings, microbiology reports, imaging results, and antimicrobial susceptibility data.
* Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for acute and chronic infectious conditions.
* Recommend appropriate antimicrobial therapies while considering resistance patterns, safety, and clinical response.
* Provide expert consultation on hospital-acquired and healthcare-associated infections.
* Lead or support antimicrobial stewardship programs across the healthcare facility.
* Develop, review, and implement infection-prevention policies, treatment protocols, and clinical pathways.
* Collaborate with intensive care, internal medicine, microbiology, pharmacy, nursing, and public health teams.
* Participate in outbreak investigations, epidemiological surveillance, contact tracing, and containment measures.
* Advise clinical teams on isolation requirements, transmission-based precautions, and exposure management.
* Oversee compliance with infection-control practices, including hand hygiene and safe clinical procedures.
* Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication tolerance, and potential complications.
* Educate physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, patients, and families about infection prevention.
* Support staff training on antimicrobial use, isolation protocols, and emerging infectious threats.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with MOHAP requirements and hospital policies.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality-improvement programs, and hospital governance activities.
* Remain current with infectious disease research, antimicrobial resistance trends, vaccination guidance, and international clinical recommendations.
* Contribute to departmental education, policy development, service improvement, and professional development initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
* Medical degree such as an MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited specialist training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
* Recognized board certification in Infectious Diseases is mandatory.
* Eligibility for a MOHAP Consultant licence to practise in Sharjah.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases.
* Demonstrated expertise in complex infectious and communicable disease management.
* Strong experience treating sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and opportunistic infections.
* Knowledge of hospital-acquired infections and healthcare-associated infection prevention.
* Practical experience developing or supporting antimicrobial stewardship programs.
* Ability to interpret microbiology findings, resistance patterns, and antimicrobial susceptibility results.
* Understanding of outbreak investigation, infection surveillance, and isolation procedures.
* Excellent clinical judgement and evidence-based decision-making abilities.
