Role Context
The Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist will provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with
complex cerebrovascular, neurological, and spinal vascular conditions. The role combines catheter-based neuro-intervention, emergency stroke treatment, diagnostic neuroradiology, procedural planning, and multidisciplinary case management. By working closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, stroke physicians, anesthesiologists, intensive care teams, and radiology colleagues, the consultant will help reduce neurological disability, improve treatment speed, and strengthen comprehensive neurovascular services.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms using appropriate minimally invasive techniques.
* Treat cerebral and spinal arteriovenous malformations through advanced neuro-interventional procedures.
* Perform mechanical thrombectomy for eligible patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke.
* Provide emergency neuro-interventional coverage for time-critical stroke and selected neurovascular trauma cases.
* Undertake carotid and intracranial stenting where clinically indicated.
* Perform spinal vascular interventions for appropriate vascular abnormalities.
* Conduct catheter angiography for diagnostic evaluation and procedural planning.
* Interpret CT and MRI examinations involving the brain, head, neck, and related neurovascular structures.
* Review CT angiography, MR angiography, digital subtraction angiography, and other advanced vascular imaging.
* Correlate imaging findings with neurological presentation, clinical history, and laboratory information.
* Develop individualized intervention strategies based on vascular anatomy, disease severity, procedural risk, and expected clinical benefit.
* Participate in acute stroke pathways and provide rapid imaging assessment to support thrombectomy decisions.
* Work closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, stroke teams, anesthesiologists, and critical care specialists during complex cases.
* Participate in multidisciplinary neurovascular conferences and complex case discussions.
* Monitor patients before, during, and after neuro-interventional procedures and coordinate postoperative or intensive care requirements.
* Recognize and manage procedural complications including hemorrhage, vessel injury, thrombosis, embolic events, or acute neurological deterioration.
* Communicate procedural findings, treatment options, risks, and expected outcomes clearly to patients and families.
* Maintain accurate diagnostic reports, angiography documentation, procedural records, consent forms, and follow-up plans.
* Supervise junior doctors and provide clinical guidance to radiology and neuro-interventional team members.
* Contribute to teaching, departmental education, case-based learning, and continuing medical education.
* Participate in clinical research, audits, outcome reviews, quality improvement, and neurovascular service development.
* Maintain practice consistent with evidence-based medicine, radiation safety requirements, patient safety standards, and applicable DHA regulations.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or equivalent recognized qualification in Radiology or Neuroradiology.
* Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology.
* Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority professional licensing.
* Proven expertise in complex neuro-interventional procedures.
* Strong experience in mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke.
* Demonstrated competence in endovascular treatment of aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations.
* Experience with carotid and intracranial stenting.
