Role Context
The Consultant - Interventional Neuroradiology will provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic neuro-interventional care for adult and pediatric patients with complex neurovascular conditions. The role requires exceptional procedural skill, rapid decision-making in stroke and emergency cases, accurate interpretation of advanced imaging, and close collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, critical care, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and radiology teams. The consultant will help strengthen neuro-interventional services in Abu Dhabi by supporting acute stroke pathways, developing clinical protocols, mentoring clinical staff, and contributing to research, teaching, and multidisciplinary care excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform advanced neuro-interventional procedures for adult and pediatric patients with acute and complex neurovascular conditions.
* Carry out mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke in line with emergency stroke pathways and patient safety standards.
* Perform aneurysm coiling, flow diversion, AVM embolization, AVF embolization, tumor embolization, carotid stenting, intracranial stenting, and spinal vascular interventions.
* Interpret advanced neuroimaging studies, including CT, MRI, CTA, MRA, DSA, and related diagnostic investigations.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for patients with complex neurovascular, cerebrovascular, and interventional neuroradiology needs.
* Participate in 24/7 stroke and neuro-interventional on-call coverage as required by the service.
* Collaborate closely with neurology, neurosurgery, critical care, emergency medicine, anesthesia, nursing, and radiology teams.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary stroke boards and neurovascular boards with expert procedural and diagnostic input.
* Support the strategic growth of the neuro-interventional service through clinical pathway development, protocol updates, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Communicate diagnoses, procedural risks, treatment options, expected outcomes, and post-procedure care plans clearly to patients and families.
* Mentor junior radiologists, fellows, technologists, residents, and medical students through teaching, case review, and procedural guidance.
* Participate in clinical research, case studies, institutional review activities, CME programs, and national or international conferences.
* Maintain accurate procedure notes, imaging interpretations, consent documentation, treatment plans, follow-up records, and clinical audit data.
* Promote a patient-centered, culturally sensitive care environment while ensuring compliance with DOH requirements and international clinical standards.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Radiology, such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
* Fellowship training in Interventional Neuroradiology or Endovascular Neurosurgery from a recognized center.
* Eligibility for Department of Health Abu Dhabi Consultant licensure.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level practice.
* Proven expertise in advanced neuro-interventional procedures and acute stroke intervention.
* Strong experience in mechanical thrombectomy, aneurysm treatment, embolization, intracranial stenting, carotid stenting, and spinal vascular interventions.
* Excellent ability to interpret CT, MRI, CTA, MRA, DSA, and complex neurovascular imaging studies.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in urgent and high-risk cases.
* Excellent communication skills with patients, families, physicians, fellows, residents, and technical staff.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
