Role Context
The Consultant - Maternal Fetal Medicine will provide expert care for pregnancies requiring specialist assessment, close monitoring, and advanced fetal evaluation. The position supports patients with maternal complications, suspected fetal abnormalities, multiple gestations, fetal growth concerns, and preterm birth risks. By combining clinical expertise, diagnostic accuracy, and family-centered counselling, the role contributes to stronger maternal and fetal healthcare standards in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage high-risk pregnancy cases involving maternal medical conditions, fetal anomalies, multiple pregnancies, growth restriction, placental concerns, and preterm birth risk.
* Perform detailed fetal assessments, including anomaly scans, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, and serial fetal growth monitoring.
* Interpret complex fetal imaging results and provide clear clinical recommendations for ongoing pregnancy care.
* Conduct prenatal diagnostic procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and fetal sampling when clinically required.
* Counsel patients and families on fetal findings, genetic risks, diagnostic options, expected outcomes, and available management pathways.
* Coordinate care with obstetricians, neonatologists, genetic specialists, radiologists, anesthetists, and other clinical teams.
* Participate in fetal therapy planning and arrange referral pathways for intrauterine intervention or tertiary fetal medicine support when needed.
* Maintain complete and accurate clinical records, scan reports, diagnostic notes, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Support clinical governance, quality improvement, audit work, patient safety initiatives, and departmental protocol development.
* Guide residents, fellows, junior doctors, and sonographers in maternal-fetal medicine practice, imaging review, and case planning.
* Take part in on-call duties according to service requirements.
* Stay updated with international fetal medicine guidelines, research developments, and continuing medical education activities.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical qualification.
* Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
* Fellowship, subspecialty certification, or recognized advanced training in Maternal Fetal Medicine or Fetal Medicine.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience in maternal-fetal medicine.
* Strong background in advanced fetal imaging, prenatal diagnosis, and high-risk obstetric care.
* Experience in a tertiary-level obstetric, fetal medicine, or women’s health service.
* Skilled in managing complex maternal and fetal cases with sound clinical judgment.
* Confident in counselling patients and families on sensitive fetal findings and pregnancy-related risks.
* Able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a specialist healthcare environment.
* Strong documentation, communication, mentoring, and clinical leadership skills.
* Commitment to ethical medical practice, patient safety, and evidence-based maternal-fetal care.
