The Consultant - Microvascular Plastic Surgery will provide advanced surgical care for patients requiring complex reconstruction, tissue transfer, microsurgery, and post-trauma or post-oncology restoration. The position involves detailed pre-operative assessment, careful surgical planning, multidisciplinary collaboration, operative management, post-operative monitoring, complication prevention, and long-term follow-up. The consultant will help strengthen reconstructive surgery services in Dubai by delivering precise microvascular procedures, improving functional and aesthetic outcomes, and supporting patients through complex recovery pathways.
Core Duties
* Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures using advanced microsurgical techniques and evidence-based operative planning.
* Manage patients requiring breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, limb reconstruction, soft tissue reconstruction, and trauma-related surgical repair.
* Carry out pre-operative assessments, including clinical examination, imaging review, risk evaluation, surgical planning, and patient counselling.
* Provide post-operative follow-up care focused on flap monitoring, wound healing, functional recovery, complication prevention, and long-term surgical outcomes.
* Develop comprehensive treatment plans in collaboration with oncology, trauma, orthopedics, ENT, vascular surgery, radiology, anesthesia, nursing, rehabilitation, and allied healthcare teams.
* Perform free flap reconstruction, tissue transfer, grafting, scar revision, defect closure, and related plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures when clinically indicated.
* Manage complex wounds, soft tissue defects, post-surgical defects, traumatic injuries, congenital deformities, and reconstructive needs following tumor resection.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding procedure options, risks, benefits, recovery expectations, and follow-up requirements.
* Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, consent documentation, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and follow-up recommendations.
* Ensure surgical care complies with clinical governance standards, patient safety protocols, infection control policies, and international best practice.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case meetings, surgical planning reviews, departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, and morbidity and mortality discussions.
* Support teaching, mentoring, and professional development activities for junior doctors, surgical trainees, nurses, and clinical team members.
* Stay updated with advances in plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, flap techniques, wound management, and patient safety standards.
Required Skills and Experience
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Specialist or Consultant qualification in Plastic Surgery.
* Fellowship or equivalent certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
* Extensive experience in microvascular surgery and complex reconstructive surgery.
* Eligibility for DHA Consultant licensure.
* Strong operative background in breast, head and neck, limb, trauma, and soft tissue reconstruction.
* Proven ability to plan and perform microsurgical procedures, free flap reconstruction, tissue transfer, and complex wound closure.
* Strong clinical judgment in pre-operative assessment, surgical risk evaluation, post-operative monitoring, and complication management.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to counsel patients and families through complex surgical decisions.
* Strong teamwork skills with experience collaborating across multidisciplinary surgical and medical specialties.
