Role Context
The Consultant Neurologist will
provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions. The role combines specialist outpatient care, inpatient consultation, neurodiagnostic interpretation, treatment planning, multidisciplinary case management, and clinical leadership. By coordinating with radiology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, internal medicine, critical care, and other specialties, the consultant will help improve diagnostic accuracy, disease control, functional outcomes, and continuity of care for patients with complex neurological disorders.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed neurological consultations and complete comprehensive clinical examinations.
* Diagnose and manage acute and chronic neurological conditions using evidence-based treatment strategies.
* Assess and treat patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, including long-term secondary prevention planning.
* Manage epilepsy and seizure disorders through medication optimization, diagnostic evaluation, and ongoing surveillance.
* Provide specialist care for patients with Parkinson\'s disease and other movement disorders.
* Diagnose and manage multiple sclerosis and related demyelinating neurological conditions.
* Evaluate and treat migraine, chronic headache disorders, and other neurological pain syndromes.
* Interpret MRI and CT imaging in conjunction with clinical findings and radiology reports.
* Review EEG studies for seizure disorders, altered consciousness, and other neurological indications.
* Interpret EMG and nerve conduction investigations in patients with peripheral neurological conditions.
* Perform or supervise lumbar puncture procedures when clinically indicated.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on neurological examination, diagnostic findings, comorbidities, and patient goals.
* Monitor treatment response and adjust medication or management strategies according to clinical progress.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and complex neurological case discussions.
* Collaborate with neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, rehabilitation specialists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
* Provide clear counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, and long-term disease management.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, diagnostic interpretations, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and other members of the clinical team.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity reviews, and departmental governance.
* Contribute to research, teaching, continuing medical education, and professional development activities.
* Maintain current knowledge of emerging neurological treatments, diagnostic technologies, and international clinical guidelines.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification in Neurology through the American Board, Canadian Board, Arab Board, European equivalent, or another recognized authority.
* Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-specialization clinical experience in neurology.
* Strong expertise in managing stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson\'s disease, multiple sclerosis, migraine, and other complex neurological disorders.
* Demonstrated competence in neurological examination and clinical diagnostic reasoning.
