Role Context

The Consultant Neurosurgeon - Cranial Surgery will provide advanced diagnostic, operative, and postoperative care for patients with complex brain and cranial neurosurgical conditions. The role carries high clinical impact because cranial cases often require precise imaging interpretation, microsurgical skill, intraoperative judgment, ICU coordination, and structured rehabilitation planning. The consultant will support service development, clinical governance, research, teaching, and protocol improvement while helping strengthen neuroscience services and patient outcomes in Dubai.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide expert management of cranial neurosurgical conditions including brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, vascular lesions, hydrocephalus, skull-base disorders, and complex intracranial pathologies.
* Perform complex cranial surgeries using advanced microsurgical, minimally invasive, image-guided, and evidence-based neurosurgical techniques.
* Evaluate patients before surgery through clinical assessment, imaging review, neurological examination, risk stratification, and multidisciplinary case planning.
* Lead multidisciplinary case discussions and collaborate with neurology, ICU, oncology, radiology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, nursing, and allied healthcare teams.
* Oversee pre-operative evaluation, surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, postoperative care, complication prevention, and long-term follow-up.
* Manage high-acuity neurosurgical cases requiring urgent intervention, intensive monitoring, emergency decision-making, and coordinated specialist input.
* Support care pathways for neuro-oncology, skull-base surgery, neurovascular surgery, hydrocephalus management, trauma surgery, and complex cranial referrals.
* Use advanced neurosurgical technologies such as neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, microsurgical systems, and minimally invasive cranial tools where available.
* Ensure adherence to international clinical quality, patient safety, surgical governance, infection control, documentation, and patient-experience standards.
* Contribute to neuroscience service development, protocol optimization, morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical governance, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Participate in teaching, mentoring, and professional development of junior doctors, residents, operating room teams, ICU teams, and allied health staff.
* Support research, academic activity, innovation, publications, and evidence-based advancement in neurosurgical practice.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, postoperative instructions, multidisciplinary recommendations, and follow-up plans.

Ideal Profile

* Board Certification, CCT, FRCS in Neurosurgery, or equivalent recognized neurosurgical qualification.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-specialty training experience with strong expertise in cranial neurosurgery.
* Proven track record in complex cranial procedures and management of high-acuity neurosurgical cases.
* Experience in a tertiary care hospital, academic medical center, major neuroscience program, or high-volume surgical environment is preferred.
* Strong expertise in neuro-oncology, skull-base surgery, neurovascular surgery, trauma neurosurgery, hydrocephalus care, or minimally invasive cranial techniques is an advantage.
* Familiarity with advanced neurosurgical technologies including neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, and microsurgical platforms.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams, support clinical governance, and contribute to service development.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex neurosurgical diagnoses, risks, procedures, and recovery expectations to patients and families.
