Role Context

The Consultant Neurosurgeon position requires extensive experience managing brain


tumors, neurotrauma, spinal disorders, vascular lesions, and functional neurological conditions. The physician will evaluate complex cases and undertake microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures using contemporary clinical technologies.

The consultant will direct care from initial assessment and surgical planning through intraoperative management, postoperative monitoring, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up. Close collaboration with neurology, intensive care, oncology, radiology, pain medicine, pathology, and rehabilitation teams will be essential.

Core Duties

* Diagnose and manage a broad range of neurosurgical disorders affecting the brain, spine, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and cerebrovascular system.
* Evaluate patients with brain tumors, traumatic injuries, degenerative spine conditions, vascular lesions, and functional neurosurgical disorders.
* Review clinical histories, neurological examinations, diagnostic imaging, laboratory findings, and neurophysiological investigations.
* Develop individualized surgical and non-surgical management plans based on clinical findings and current evidence.
* Perform complex cranial, spinal, vascular, endoscopic, microsurgical, and minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures.
* Use neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, and other advanced technologies during suitable procedures.
* Lead preoperative evaluation, risk assessment, surgical planning, and informed-consent discussions.
* Make timely intraoperative decisions while maintaining high standards of surgical precision and patient safety.
* Direct postoperative care and monitor patients for neurological changes, complications, and treatment response.
* Coordinate rehabilitation and structured follow-up plans to support recovery and functional outcomes.
* Lead multidisciplinary case discussions with neurologists, intensivists, oncologists, radiologists, pain specialists, and rehabilitation professionals.
* Provide specialist consultation for emergency, high-acuity, and diagnostically challenging neurosurgical cases.
* Explain diagnoses, proposed procedures, risks, treatment alternatives, and expected outcomes clearly to patients and families.
* Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
* Follow international patient-safety standards, infection-control procedures, and clinical quality protocols.
* Participate in clinical governance, surgical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and service-improvement initiatives.
* Teach and mentor residents, fellows, junior physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Contribute to neuroscience research, clinical innovation, academic activities, and evidence-based service development.
* Support the continued development of a high-quality tertiary neuroscience program.

Required Skills and Experience

* Medical degree such as an MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited specialty training in neurosurgery.
* UK Certificate of Completion of Training and FRCS in Neurosurgery, American Board Certification, or an equivalent Tier 1 qualification.
* Eligibility for a DHA Consultant licence in Dubai.
* Minimum of 8-10 years of experience following completion of neurosurgical specialty training.
* Substantial experience within a high-acuity tertiary hospital or academic medical center.
* Proven ability to diagnose and surgically manage complex cranial and spinal conditions.
* Advanced competence in microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques.
* Proficiency with neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, and neuro-monitoring technologies.
* Strong surgical judgement and the ability to make effective decisions in complex or emergency situations.
* Demonstrated clinical leadership and multidisciplinary team-management capabilities.
* Excellent communication, patient-counselling, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
* Commitment to ethical medical practice, patient safety, clinical quality, and continuing professional development.
* Subspecialty expertise in neuro-oncology, spine surgery, neurovascular surgery, functional neurosurgery, or minimally invasive neurosurgery is advantageous.
