Role Context
The Consultant - Neurosurgery will provide advanced neurosurgical care within a leading tertiary hospital environment in Dubai. The position requires strong clinical leadership across diagnosis, surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, post-operative follow-up, and multidisciplinary case coordination. The consultant will also contribute to the growth of a high-quality neuroscience program through service improvement, governance, research, teaching, and the adoption of modern neurosurgical technologies.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage a broad range of neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, traumatic injuries, spine disorders, vascular lesions, functional neurosurgical conditions, and complex neurological presentations.
* Perform advanced neurosurgical procedures using microsurgical, endoscopic, minimally invasive, image-guided, and evidence-based operative techniques.
* Lead pre-operative evaluation, patient selection, risk assessment, surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, and post-operative follow-up.
* Collaborate with neurology, ICU, oncology, radiology, pain management, rehabilitation, anesthesia, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Lead or participate in multidisciplinary discussions, complex case reviews, tumor boards, surgical planning meetings, and high-acuity care pathways.
* Use advanced neurosurgical technologies such as neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, endoscopic systems, and precision surgical tools.
* Ensure compliance with international standards for patient safety, clinical quality, infection control, documentation, consent, and surgical governance.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement activities, and service development initiatives.
* Provide expert input for emergency neurosurgical cases, complex referrals, and high-risk surgical decisions.
* Teach, mentor, and support the development of residents, fellows, junior doctors, and allied health professionals.
* Engage in research, innovation, evidence-based practice, and continuous professional development to improve neurosurgical outcomes.
* Maintain accurate clinical notes, operative reports, treatment plans, consent documentation, and follow-up records in line with hospital standards.
Ideal Profile
* CCT, FRCS in Neurosurgery, American Board Certification, or equivalent Tier-1 specialist qualification.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialty training experience in neurosurgery.
* Proven experience working in high-acuity tertiary hospitals, academic medical centers, or advanced neuroscience programs.
* Eligibility for DHA Consultant License.
* Strong ability to manage complex neurosurgical conditions across cranial, spinal, vascular, oncologic, trauma, and functional neurosurgery.
* Proficiency with neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, minimally invasive systems, and modern neurosurgical technologies.
* Subspecialty interest in neuro-oncology, spine surgery, neurovascular surgery, functional neurosurgery, or minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques will be an advantage.
* Strong leadership skills with experience in multidisciplinary care planning, clinical governance, service improvement, and surgical quality programs.
* Excellent communication skills for patient counselling, family discussions, surgical consent, and coordination with specialist teams.
* Commitment to patient safety, ethical surgical practice, evidence-based medicine, and continuous improvement.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural tertiary healthcare environment.
