Role Context

The Consultant - Neurosurgery will provide expert surgical and clinical management for patients with complex disorders of the brain, spine, peripheral nerves, and central nervous system. The role requires strong experience in high-acuity tertiary care, advanced surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, modern neurosurgical technology, and coordinated management with neurology, ICU, oncology, radiology, pain management, rehabilitation, anesthesia, nursing, and allied healthcare teams. The consultant will help strengthen neuroscience services in Dubai by leading complex case pathways, improving surgical outcomes, mentoring clinical teams, and supporting innovation in neurosurgical practice.

Core Duties

* Diagnose and manage the full spectrum of neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, spinal disorders, traumatic brain and spine injuries, vascular lesions, functional neurosurgical cases, and complex neurological presentations.
* Perform advanced neurosurgical procedures using microsurgical, endoscopic, minimally invasive, image-guided, and evidence-based operative techniques.
* Lead pre-operative evaluation, risk assessment, surgical planning, intraoperative decision-making, and structured post-operative follow-up.
* Manage neuro-oncology cases in collaboration with oncology, radiology, pathology, ICU, rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary tumor board teams.
* Provide surgical care for spine conditions, including degenerative disease, spinal tumors, trauma, instability, and complex compressive pathologies.
* Support neurovascular and functional neurosurgical care where clinically appropriate, including multidisciplinary decision-making for complex cases.
* Use advanced neurosurgical technologies such as neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, neuro-monitoring, and minimally invasive surgical systems.
* Lead multidisciplinary discussions with neurology, intensive care, oncology, radiology, pain management, rehabilitation, anesthesia, nursing, and allied health professionals.
* Oversee emergency neurosurgical care for trauma, acute neurological deterioration, raised intracranial pressure, hemorrhage, and urgent spine or brain conditions.
* Ensure all surgical and clinical care follows international patient safety standards, infection control practices, clinical governance requirements, and hospital protocols.
* Maintain accurate documentation, including consultation notes, imaging review, surgical plans, operative reports, consent records, post-operative updates, and follow-up recommendations.
* Participate in clinical governance, audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, outcome tracking, and service improvement initiatives.
* Teach, mentor, and support residents, fellows, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals involved in neuroscience care.
* Engage in research, innovation, publications, and evidence-based practice to improve neurosurgical outcomes and support service growth.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* CCT, FRCS in Neurosurgery, American Board Certification, or equivalent Tier-1 neurosurgical qualification.
* Eligibility for DHA Consultant License.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialty training experience in neurosurgery.
* Proven experience working in high-acuity tertiary or academic medical centers.
* Strong expertise in complex brain, spine, trauma, vascular, tumor, and functional neurosurgical cases.
* Proficiency with advanced neurosurgical technologies including neuronavigation, intraoperative imaging, and neuro-monitoring.
* Experience in neuro-oncology, spine surgery, neurovascular surgery, functional neurosurgery, or minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques will be an advantage.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through complex surgical and clinical decisions.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain diagnosis, surgical options, risks, recovery plans, and expected outcomes to patients and families.
* Strong commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, clinical governance, accurate documentation, teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
