Key Responsibilities
* Provide consultant-level care for newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including premature babies and critically ill infants.
* Diagnose and manage neonatal conditions such as respiratory distress, infections, congenital abnormalities, feeding difficulties, low birth weight, and other complex medical concerns.
* Monitor unstable newborns closely and provide timely medical interventions to support breathing, circulation, temperature control, nutrition, and overall stabilization.
* Interpret diagnostic tests, including X-rays, blood tests, infection markers, blood gases, and other neonatal investigations.
* Develop individualized care plans based on each newborn’s clinical condition, gestational age, risk factors, and response to treatment.
* Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, pediatric critical care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, lactation teams, surgeons, and allied health professionals.
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment progress, risks, discharge planning, and newborn care instructions.
* Maintain accurate and updated medical records, clinical notes, treatment plans, progress documentation, and discharge summaries.
* Stay updated with latest developments in neonatal intensive care, infection prevention, respiratory support, neonatal nutrition, and evidence-based NICU practices.
* Support patient safety, quality improvement, clinical governance, and safe neonatal care standards within the unit.
* Adapt care delivery to different patient backgrounds while maintaining cultural sensitivity and strong family-centered communication.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Specialist training in Neonatology or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
* Minimum 3 years of experience as a Consultant NICU in a reputable healthcare facility.
* Valid regional healthcare license or eligibility for consultant-level licensing is preferred.
* Strong expertise in neonatal intensive care, premature baby management, respiratory distress care, neonatal stabilization, and critical newborn monitoring.
* Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced NICU environment.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach to parents and families.
* Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical documentation, ethical practice, and high-quality newborn care.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
