The Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist provides specialist medical and surgical care across the full spectrum of women\'s health, from preventive screening and reproductive counseling to pregnancy management and complex gynecological treatment. The position carries responsibility for clinical decision-making across outpatient, inpatient and procedural settings.
A significant part of the role involves managing normal and high-risk pregnancies while coordinating care with anesthetists, neonatologists, radiologists and other specialists. Strong clinical judgment, surgical capability and clear patient communication are essential for achieving safe maternal and gynecological outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist obstetric and gynecological consultations for outpatient and hospitalized patients.
* Assess, diagnose and develop evidence-based treatment plans for a broad range of women\'s health conditions.
* Manage antenatal care throughout normal and high-risk pregnancies.
* Monitor maternal and fetal health and identify pregnancy complications requiring additional intervention.
* Manage labor and delivery according to individual clinical circumstances and established hospital protocols.
* Provide comprehensive postnatal assessment and follow-up care.
* Diagnose and treat menstrual disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome and other hormonal or reproductive conditions.
* Evaluate and manage patients presenting with infertility and related gynecological concerns.
* Provide specialist management for uterine fibroids, endometriosis and menopausal conditions.
* Perform cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures within approved clinical privileges.
* Undertake appropriate gynecological surgical procedures according to diagnosis and patient requirements.
* Apply minimally invasive surgical techniques where clinically suitable and within professional scope.
* Perform routine women\'s health examinations, screenings and preventive healthcare assessments.
* Counsel patients regarding reproductive health, pregnancy, contraception and family planning.
* Explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment alternatives and potential risks clearly to patients.
* Coordinate complex cases with neonatology, anesthesia, radiology and other multidisciplinary specialties.
* Maintain complete and accurate medical records for consultations, procedures and follow-up care.
* Follow applicable UAE healthcare regulations, clinical governance requirements and hospital protocols.
* Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement programs designed to strengthen patient outcomes.
* Attend departmental meetings and contribute professional expertise to multidisciplinary clinical discussions.
* Maintain continuing medical education requirements and remain current with developments in obstetrics and gynecology.
* Support safe clinical practices and contribute to consistent standards of women\'s healthcare across the department.
Ideal Profile
The position requires an MBBS or equivalent recognized medical qualification together with Board Certification or Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Candidates should have at least 5-7 years of post-board experience at consultant level within a reputable hospital or advanced clinical environment. A strong record in both obstetric and gynecological practice is expected.
The successful consultant should demonstrate extensive capability in antenatal care, labor and delivery, postnatal management, gynecological diagnosis and operative treatment. Experience managing high-risk obstetric cases in tertiary care settings is particularly valuable.
Advanced experience in minimally invasive gynecological procedures and laparoscopic surgery would strengthen suitability for the position.
Strong communication and patient counseling skills are essential, particularly when discussing pregnancy complications, reproductive health, surgical options or sensitive women\'s health concerns. Arabic language capability is advantageous but not mandatory.
