The Consultant Obstetrician - Maternal Care provides specialist medical leadership across pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postnatal care. The role focuses strictly on obstetrics, making it suitable for a consultant with deep experience in maternal health, fetal wellbeing, high-risk pregnancy assessment, and emergency obstetric interventions.
This position has a direct impact on patient safety, birth outcomes, maternal confidence, and continuity of care. The consultant will guide clinical pathways for expectant mothers, identify risks early, manage urgent obstetric situations, and ensure each patient receives clear communication and evidence-based treatment throughout pregnancy and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage normal and high-risk pregnancies with careful antenatal assessment, ongoing monitoring, and individualized care planning.
* Conduct antenatal and postnatal consultations, including maternal health reviews, fetal wellbeing checks, risk screening, and follow-up care.
* Supervise labor and delivery procedures while ensuring safe clinical practice, timely decision-making, and supportive patient communication.
* Perform emergency obstetric interventions, including cesarean sections and urgent delivery-related procedures when clinically required.
* Monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the immediate postnatal period.
* Identify pregnancy complications early and manage conditions linked to high-risk obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, and complex delivery needs.
* Collaborate closely with neonatology, anesthesia, nursing, midwifery, and maternity care teams to provide coordinated care.
* Provide clear counselling to patients and families regarding pregnancy progress, delivery options, risk factors, procedures, and recovery expectations.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, consultation notes, delivery documentation, consent forms, and follow-up plans.
* Follow international obstetric standards, patient safety protocols, infection control practices, and clinical governance requirements.
* Participate in case reviews, maternity audits, quality improvement activity, teaching, and continuous medical education.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with recognized specialization in Obstetrics.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Obstetrics.
* Active DHA license or DHA license eligibility is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in obstetrics.
* Female candidate preferred as per operational requirement.
* Strong expertise in maternal-fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy care, labor management, emergency obstetric intervention, and cesarean section procedures.
* Proven ability to manage complex pregnancy cases with safe, timely, and evidence-based clinical judgment.
* Excellent patient communication skills with the ability to explain risks, treatment plans, procedures, and delivery decisions clearly.
* Strong collaboration skills for working with neonatology, anesthesia, nursing, and maternity care teams.
