Role Context
The Consultant - Obstetrics will focus exclusively on pregnancy, childbirth, maternal wellbeing, fetal monitoring, and delivery-related care. The role includes managing normal and high-risk pregnancies, conducting antenatal and postnatal consultations, supervising labor, performing emergency obstetric interventions, and coordinating closely with neonatology, anesthesia, nursing, and maternity teams. The consultant will help strengthen obstetric services in Dubai through safe clinical decision-making, compassionate communication, accurate documentation, and adherence to international maternity care standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage normal and high-risk pregnancies with careful monitoring of maternal and fetal wellbeing.
* Conduct antenatal consultations, pregnancy risk assessments, postnatal reviews, and follow-up care for maternity patients.
* Supervise labor and delivery procedures, ensuring timely clinical decisions and safe maternal and neonatal outcomes.
* Perform emergency obstetric interventions, including cesarean sections and urgent delivery-related procedures when clinically required.
* Monitor fetal growth, maternal health, pregnancy complications, labor progress, and post-delivery recovery.
* Develop individualized pregnancy care plans based on medical history, obstetric risk factors, diagnostic findings, and patient needs.
* Collaborate closely with neonatologists, anesthesiologists, midwives, nurses, radiologists, fetal medicine teams, and maternity care professionals.
* Provide clear patient counselling on pregnancy progress, birth planning, warning signs, delivery options, procedure risks, and postnatal care.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including consultation notes, antenatal records, delivery records, operative reports, consent forms, and follow-up plans.
* Ensure clinical care follows DHA requirements, hospital protocols, patient safety standards, confidentiality rules, and international obstetric care guidelines.
* Support emergency readiness for obstetric complications, including fetal distress, hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders, preterm labor, and complex delivery scenarios.
* Participate in maternity case reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings focused on safe obstetric practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Specialization in Obstetrics.
* Board certification or fellowship in Obstetrics.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Obstetrics registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant experience in obstetrics.
* Female candidate preferred as per operational requirement.
* Strong expertise in maternal-fetal medicine, high-risk obstetrics, antenatal care, labor management, and emergency obstetric care.
* Proven ability to manage complex pregnancy cases and make timely clinical decisions in maternity settings.
* Excellent patient communication, counselling, documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to work effectively with neonatology, anesthesia, nursing, and maternity support teams.
