Role Context
The Consultant - OMF Cleft Surgery will provide specialist diagnosis, surgical care, and long-term management for pediatric and adult patients with cleft lip and palate conditions, congenital craniofacial anomalies, facial trauma, jaw disorders, and complex reconstructive needs. The role requires strong surgical judgment, careful treatment sequencing, family and patient counselling, and coordinated care with ENT, plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, anesthesia, and rehabilitation teams. The consultant will help strengthen oral and maxillofacial surgical services in Dubai through safe operative care, multidisciplinary planning, and evidence-based clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage cleft lip and palate conditions across pediatric and adult patients, including primary presentations, revision cases, and long-term functional concerns.
* Perform advanced oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures involving facial bones, jaws, soft tissues, congenital anomalies, trauma, and reconstructive conditions.
* Manage congenital craniofacial disorders, facial trauma, jaw deformities, soft tissue defects, and complex reconstructive surgical cases.
* Develop individualized treatment plans and surgical strategies based on patient age, anatomy, functional needs, speech considerations, dental alignment, aesthetic goals, and clinical priorities.
* Collaborate with ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Provide pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, informed consent counselling, post-operative follow-up, complication monitoring, and long-term care coordination.
* Support integrated cleft care pathways involving feeding support, speech development, dental and orthodontic planning, airway review, and psychosocial wellbeing.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, expected outcomes, staged treatment needs, and recovery plans.
* Ensure high standards of patient safety, infection control, surgical quality, clinical outcomes, and professional documentation.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent forms, treatment plans, imaging reviews, discharge summaries, and follow-up records.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, teaching activities, case discussions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Contribute to service improvement by supporting protocol development, multidisciplinary case review, and evidence-based reconstructive surgery practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution with recognized specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Fellowship or board certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or an equivalent relevant specialty.
* DHA License, DHA Eligibility Letter, or eligibility for Consultant registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, cleft care, or craniofacial reconstructive practice.
* Strong expertise in cleft lip and palate management, facial trauma surgery, congenital craniofacial conditions, and reconstructive surgical procedures.
* Experience working with multidisciplinary cleft, craniofacial, pediatric, orthodontic, ENT, plastic surgery, and speech therapy teams.
* Confident ability to develop staged treatment plans for complex congenital and acquired facial conditions.
* Excellent communication, patient counselling, surgical planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
* Strong clinical documentation skills with attention to patient safety, quality outcomes, and continuity of care.
