Role
The Consultant Orthopedic Spine Surgeon will provide specialized assessment, conservative treatment, operative management, and long-term follow-up for patients with complex spinal conditions. The position plays a key role in restoring mobility, reducing pain, correcting deformities, improving neurological function, and supporting safe recovery for patients with congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity-related spine disorders. Working with neurosurgery, neurology, pain management, rehabilitation, radiology, and physiotherapy teams, the consultant will help deliver coordinated spine care in a modern clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity-related spinal conditions affecting adult and pediatric patients.
* Perform detailed clinical evaluations using patient history, physical examination, neurological assessment, pain pattern review, functional limitation analysis, and imaging correlation.
* Interpret diagnostic investigations including X-rays, CT scans, MRI studies, bone scans, and other relevant spine imaging or laboratory findings.
* Perform complex spinal procedures including minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal decompression, spinal fusion, disc replacement, deformity correction, spinal stabilization, and revision spine surgeries.
* Develop individualized treatment plans that combine conservative care, medication coordination, physiotherapy, pain management, surgical intervention, and structured follow-up.
* Provide pre-operative counseling, surgical planning, informed consent, risk discussion, recovery expectations, and post-operative care guidance.
* Manage spinal trauma and emergency spine cases in line with accepted clinical protocols and patient safety standards.
* Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management physicians, radiologists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Monitor post-operative progress, wound healing, neurological status, mobility improvement, pain control, and rehabilitation readiness.
* Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, rehabilitation needs, preventive spine care, posture, activity modification, and long-term recovery.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, imaging reviews, surgical plans, operative reports, consent documentation, progress records, and follow-up instructions in compliance with DHA regulations and hospital policies.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, spine case reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement activities, continuing medical education, and service development initiatives.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, operating room teams, and allied healthcare professionals where required.
* Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, surgical safety standards, ethical practice, clinical governance, and evidence-based orthopedic spine care.
Ideal Profile
* Medical Degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Completion of a recognized Residency in Orthopedic Surgery.
* Fellowship or subspecialty training in Spine Surgery from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or equivalent qualification in Orthopedic Surgery.
* DHA Eligibility Letter, valid DHA License, or eligibility for Consultant licensure in Dubai.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including significant consultant-level experience in spine surgery.
* Proven expertise in complex spinal procedures, minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal deformity correction, spinal trauma management, and revision spine operations.
* Strong experience interpreting spine imaging and applying findings to surgical decision-making.
* Additional certifications in minimally invasive spine surgery or advanced spinal techniques will be an advantage.
* Previous experience in a tertiary care hospital or internationally accredited healthcare institution is preferred.
* Strong understanding of spinal biomechanics, neurological assessment, perioperative risk management, and post-operative rehabilitation planning.
* Excellent communication skills for patient counseling, family education, informed consent, and multidisciplinary coordination.
