The Consultant Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon will provide consultant-level management for patients with acute and complex musculoskeletal injuries, from emergency assessment and operative stabilization through reconstruction, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up. The position requires rapid clinical judgment, advanced fracture management skills, and coordinated decision-making for patients with multiple injuries. By contributing to trauma pathways, surgical quality, education, and clinical governance, the consultant will help strengthen emergency orthopedic services and improve functional outcomes for patients with serious injuries.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and manage acute orthopedic trauma involving fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, and complex musculoskeletal damage.
* Perform emergency and planned orthopedic trauma procedures including internal fixation, external fixation, fracture reconstruction, and revision surgery.
* Manage complex pelvic and acetabular fractures using appropriate operative and non-operative strategies.
* Treat periarticular fractures affecting major joints while preserving alignment, stability, and long-term function.
* Provide consultant-level care for polytrauma patients in coordination with trauma surgery, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and critical care teams.
* Conduct pre-operative assessment and determine surgical timing, fixation strategy, imaging requirements, and peri-operative risk.
* Lead operative management of complex fractures and reconstructive trauma cases using evidence-based orthopedic techniques.
* Oversee postoperative care including pain control, wound management, thromboprophylaxis, mobilization planning, and complication surveillance.
* Participate in trauma call rotations and provide urgent orthopedic consultation for emergency presentations.
* Coordinate patient management with emergency physicians, intensivists, radiologists, vascular surgeons, neurosurgeons, rehabilitation specialists, physiotherapists, and nursing teams.
* Review radiographs, CT scans, MRI studies, and other imaging to support operative planning and follow-up assessment.
* Identify and manage complications including infection, nonunion, malunion, fixation failure, compartment syndrome, and post-traumatic stiffness.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation and follow-up plans designed to restore mobility, function, and independence.
* Maintain complete consultation notes, operative records, consent documentation, discharge plans, and follow-up reports.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, trauma audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support education and mentoring of junior physicians, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary clinical staff.
* Contribute to continuing medical education, departmental teaching, trauma protocol development, and professional development activities.

Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification from a recognized institution.
* Recognized Specialist or Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery.
* CCT, American Board, German Board, FRCSC, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent recognized certification.
* Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery is preferred.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-board consultant experience in orthopedic trauma surgery.
* Valid UAE consultant license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate professional license.
