Role Context
The Consultant Pain Management - Interventional Care will provide comprehensive assessment and treatment for patients experiencing acute, persistent, and complex pain conditions. The position combines pharmacological management, minimally invasive interventions, rehabilitation-focused strategies, and multidisciplinary clinical coordination. By working closely with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Physiotherapy teams, the consultant will help reduce pain severity, restore functional ability, and support sustainable improvements in patients\' daily lives.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and diagnose patients presenting with acute, chronic, neuropathic, musculoskeletal, cancer-related, and other complex pain conditions.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, symptom severity, functional limitations, and patient goals.
* Prescribe and monitor appropriate pharmacological pain management therapies.
* Perform peripheral and targeted nerve blocks when clinically indicated.
* Conduct epidural steroid injections for selected spinal and radicular pain conditions.
* Perform radiofrequency ablation procedures for suitable chronic pain indications.
* Undertake joint injections and other therapeutic pain procedures within the consultant\'s scope of practice.
* Use image-guided techniques to improve procedural accuracy and patient safety.
* Incorporate non-pharmacological and rehabilitation-focused approaches into comprehensive pain management plans.
* Monitor treatment response and modify medication, procedural, or rehabilitation strategies according to patient progress.
* Collaborate with Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Physiotherapy, and other specialties.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary care for patients with complex or persistent pain conditions.
* Educate patients and families regarding treatment options, realistic outcomes, medication use, lifestyle changes, and self-management strategies.
* Support patients in improving mobility, function, sleep, and overall quality of life through structured pain control.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedural records, consent documentation, medication plans, and follow-up information.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, continuing medical education, and service development.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians and allied healthcare professionals when required.
* Maintain high standards of infection control, procedural safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based care.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited specialist training in Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, or another relevant specialty.
* Fellowship or recognized subspecialty certification in Pain Management or Pain Medicine.
* Board Certification in the primary specialty and appropriate pain management credentials.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-board experience practicing as a Consultant in Pain Management.
* Strong experience managing a broad range of acute and chronic pain disorders.
* Demonstrated proficiency in interventional pain procedures and image-guided techniques.
* Previous experience in a tertiary care hospital is advantageous.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility to obtain consultant-level licensing in Dubai.
* Candidates holding other UAE licensing eligibility and able to obtain DHA licensing may also be considered.
* Strong procedural judgment and clinical decision-making abilities.
* Excellent communication and patient counselling skills.
* Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary medical, surgical, and rehabilitation teams.
