Position Overview

The Consultant - Palliative Care will deliver specialized medical support in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the Hospital and Health Care industry. Role Context

This Consultant - Palliative Care position involves assessing and managing patients affected by cancer, organ failure, progressive neurological disease, and other serious or chronic conditions. The consultant will develop individualized care plans that address pain, physical symptoms, psychological distress, social concerns, and family-support needs.

The physician will coordinate with oncology, internal medicine, critical care, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation, and other relevant services. The role also includes goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, family meetings, clinical education, and the continued development of high-quality palliative care services.

Key Responsibilities

* Assess patients requiring palliative, supportive, or end-of-life medical care.
* Diagnose and manage pain and other complex symptoms associated with advanced illness.
* Develop individualized palliative treatment plans based on each patient\'s condition, preferences, and care goals.
* Review medication regimens and recommend appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
* Manage symptoms such as breathlessness, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, agitation, and reduced appetite.
* Provide specialist consultation for patients with difficult-to-control symptoms or complex care needs.
* Conduct family meetings and facilitate sensitive discussions about prognosis, treatment priorities, and expected outcomes.
* Support advance care planning and informed end-of-life decision-making in accordance with applicable regulations and ethical standards.
* Coordinate care with oncology, internal medicine, critical care, nursing, psychology, social work, and rehabilitation teams.
* Promote continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, home-care, and hospice services where available.
* Provide compassionate emotional and psychosocial support to patients, relatives, and caregivers.
* Recognize cultural, spiritual, and personal values when planning and delivering palliative care.
* Review patient progress regularly and adjust care plans according to changing clinical needs.
* Maintain accurate, confidential, and comprehensive medical documentation.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical case reviews, and care-planning discussions.
* Contribute to the development of palliative p care policies, protocols, and clinical pathways.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement programs, and patient-safety initiatives.
* Support the expansion and improvement of palliative and supportive care services.
* Educate and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals when required.
* Promote greater understanding of symptom control, communication, and compassionate end-of-life care.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as an MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Completed specialist medical training relevant to palliative care practice.
* Recognized board certification, fellowship, or advanced qualification in Palliative Medicine or a related specialty.
* Eligibility for consultant-level medical licensing with the appropriate healthcare authority in Dubai.
* Clinical experience managing patients with advanced, chronic, or life-limiting illnesses.
* Strong expertise in pain medicine, symptom control, and supportive care planning.
* Ability to conduct sensitive goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions.
* Knowledge of ethical and legal considerations associated with palliative and end-of-life care.
* Proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Excellent clinical judgement and evidence-based decision-making ability.
