Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric and Adolescent Physician will provide continuous medical care from infancy through adolescence, combining acute treatment with preventive health, developmental surveillance, chronic disease management, and psychosocial support. The role requires close attention to the changing physical, emotional, behavioral, and social needs of young patients. By coordinating with pediatric subspecialists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, and allied healthcare professionals, the consultant will help strengthen early intervention, long-term health outcomes, and continuity of care for children and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
* Conduct comprehensive pediatric and adolescent health assessments based on age, developmental stage, symptoms, and medical history.
* Provide preventive healthcare including routine examinations, immunizations, health screening, and anticipatory guidance.
* Monitor physical growth, developmental milestones, nutrition, and overall wellbeing throughout childhood and adolescence.
* Identify developmental delays, behavioral concerns, and learning-related health issues requiring further assessment or specialist referral.
* Manage chronic pediatric conditions using individualized long-term treatment and follow-up plans.
* Assess adolescent-specific health concerns including emotional wellbeing, lifestyle-related disease, eating disorders, and behavioral health issues.
* Provide age-appropriate reproductive health education and preventive counseling for adolescent patients.
* Recognize mental health concerns in adolescents and coordinate timely support with psychologists or psychiatrists where required.
* Address obesity, inactivity, nutrition concerns, sleep problems, and other lifestyle factors affecting long-term health.
* Develop individualized care plans that consider physical health, emotional wellbeing, social circumstances, and family needs.
* Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists on patients with complex or multisystem conditions.
* Work closely with psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, therapists, and allied healthcare professionals when multidisciplinary care is required.
* Provide family counseling on childhood development, disease management, treatment adherence, nutrition, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle practices.
* Educate adolescents directly and appropriately regarding their health, treatment responsibilities, and preventive strategies.
* Promote early recognition and prevention of chronic disease risk factors.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, developmental records, vaccination history, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, case reviews, and patient safety initiatives.
* Contribute to teaching and supervision of junior physicians and other healthcare staff where appropriate.
* Participate in continuing medical education and maintain current knowledge of developments in pediatric and adolescent medicine.
* Deliver evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Specialist training in Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, or a closely related pediatric field.
* Fellowship or Board Certification in Pediatrics or an appropriate relevant subspecialty.
* Appropriate UAE Consultant License or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in Pediatrics or Adolescent Medicine.
* Strong clinical expertise in preventive pediatric care, developmental medicine, and adolescent health.
* Demonstrated experience managing acute and chronic conditions across different pediatric age groups.
* Strong understanding of adolescent mental health, eating disorders, lifestyle-related conditions, and reproductive health counseling.
* Experience with growth and developmental surveillance and early identification of developmental concerns.
* Ability to coordinate care effectively with pediatric subspecialists and behavioral health professionals.
* Excellent communication and counseling skills when working with children, adolescents, parents, and caregivers.
* Strong awareness of confidentiality and age-appropriate communication in adolescent healthcare.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural clinical environment.
