The Consultant - Pediatric Anesthesia will play a critical role in protecting patient safety during pediatric and neonatal procedures by delivering precise, evidence-based anesthesia management before, during, and after surgery. The position supports complex surgical services, PICU and NICU teams, emergency response pathways, and clinical governance programs. Through advanced airway expertise, calm crisis management, and strong coordination with surgeons and critical care teams, the consultant helps improve outcomes for young patients requiring specialized anesthesia care in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide safe and advanced anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents across elective, urgent, emergency, and high-risk surgical settings.
* Assess pediatric patients before procedures, review medical history, evaluate anesthesia risks, and prepare individualized perioperative care plans.
* Manage intraoperative anesthesia including airway control, ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, medication administration, fluid support, and rapid clinical decision-making.
* Lead anesthesia care for complex neonatal and pediatric surgeries where advanced airway, monitoring, and resuscitation skills are required.
* Oversee postoperative recovery plans, pain management protocols, sedation pathways, and safe handover to ward, recovery, PICU, or NICU teams.
* Support pediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care teams with airway management, procedural sedation, emergency stabilization, and resuscitation support.
* Respond to pediatric emergencies with structured crisis management, clear communication, and evidence-based resuscitation practice.
* Maintain strict adherence to pediatric anesthesia safety standards, hospital policies, clinical guidelines, UAE regulatory requirements, and international best practices.
* Contribute to clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality-improvement activities, and patient-safety programs.
* Document anesthesia assessments, intraoperative records, medication details, consent notes, postoperative plans, and clinical outcomes accurately and on time.
* Teach and supervise residents, fellows, nurses, anesthesia technicians, and allied healthcare professionals involved in pediatric perioperative care.
* Participate in simulation-based training focused on pediatric airway emergencies, neonatal deterioration, resuscitation, and anesthesia-related crisis scenarios.
* Support research, academic activities, continuing medical education, and departmental learning initiatives.
* Assist in developing pediatric anesthesia policies, clinical pathways, safety checklists, and service improvement plans.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized medical institution.
* Completed residency training in Anesthesiology.
* Recognized fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Anesthesia.
* Board certification such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent specialist qualification.
* Eligibility for DOH or HAAD Consultant License.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-consultant experience in pediatric anesthesia is preferred.
* Proven expertise in neonatal anesthesia, infant anesthesia, pediatric airway management, perioperative safety, and pediatric resuscitation.
* Experience in tertiary-care hospitals or high-volume pediatric surgical centers will be an advantage.
* Strong ability to manage complex and high-risk pediatric surgical cases with clinical confidence and careful risk control.
* Excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, and teaching skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, intensivists, nurses, anesthesia colleagues, and allied health teams.
