This role is suitable for a consultant-level pediatric anesthesiology specialist with strong expertise in pediatric airway management, neonatal anesthesia, perioperative risk assessment, intraoperative care, postoperative pain control, procedural sedation, and pediatric resuscitation.
The position requires careful clinical judgment, calm crisis management, and close collaboration with pediatric surgeons, PICU teams, NICU teams, nurses, respiratory therapists, emergency physicians, and allied healthcare professionals. The selected consultant will help ensure safe, evidence-based pediatric anesthesia services while contributing to clinical audits, simulation training, patient-safety programs, teaching, research, and departmental policy development.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide safe and evidence-based anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing elective, emergency, and complex surgical procedures
* Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, risk stratification, and anesthesia planning for pediatric patients with varied medical and surgical needs
* Deliver intraoperative anesthesia management, including airway control, ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, fluid planning, medication administration, and crisis response
* Manage anesthesia for high-risk pediatric and neonatal surgeries requiring advanced airway, monitoring, and multidisciplinary coordination
* Oversee postoperative recovery, pain management, sedation protocols, and safe transfer of care after procedures
* Support PICU and NICU teams with pediatric airway management, procedural sedation, emergency stabilization, and critical care pathways
* Participate in pediatric emergency response, including resuscitation, rapid stabilization, difficult airway support, and acute deterioration management
* Ensure adherence to pediatric anesthesia safety standards, clinical guidelines, infection control requirements, and patient-safety frameworks
* Contribute to clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental safety programs
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with DHA requirements, hospital policies, and clinical governance standards
* Teach and supervise residents, fellows, nurses, and allied health staff involved in pediatric anesthesia and perioperative care
* Participate in simulation-based training for pediatric emergencies, airway crises, and multidisciplinary resuscitation scenarios
* Engage in research, academic activities, continuous professional development, and evidence-based departmental practice improvement
* Support departmental policy development, clinical pathway creation, and pediatric perioperative patient-safety initiatives
Ideal Profile
The ideal candidate is a Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist with recognized fellowship or subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia and strong experience in neonatal, infant, and child anesthesia within tertiary-care or high-volume pediatric surgical settings. This role requires excellent airway skills, calm decision-making, teamwork, leadership, and a strong commitment to safe pediatric perioperative care.
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Completed residency training in Anesthesiology
* Recognized fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Anesthesia
* Board Certification such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent
* Eligibility for DHA Consultant License in Anesthesiology or Pediatric Anesthesia
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-consultant experience in pediatric anesthesia is preferred
* Demonstrated expertise in neonatal and pediatric airway management
* Strong experience in pediatric resuscitation, crisis management, procedural sedation, and high-risk perioperative care
* Experience in tertiary-care or high-volume pediatric surgical centers will be an advantage
* Strong communication, teamwork, teaching, leadership, and documentation skills
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural clinical environment with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams
