Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist will oversee anesthesia care throughout the pediatric perioperative journey, from pre-anesthetic assessment and individualized planning through intraoperative management and post-anesthesia recovery. The role requires precise clinical judgment when caring for children with varying developmental stages, congenital conditions, complex surgical needs, and acute emergencies. By working closely with pediatric surgeons, intensivists, nursing teams, respiratory specialists, and other clinicians, the consultant will help strengthen procedural safety, crisis response, recovery quality, and family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive anesthesia services for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
* Conduct detailed pre-anesthetic assessments covering medical history, airway status, comorbidities, previous anesthesia exposure, and procedural risk.
* Develop individualized anesthetic plans based on age, weight, developmental stage, surgical requirements, and clinical complexity.
* Administer general anesthesia, sedation, and other appropriate anesthetic techniques within the scope of pediatric specialist practice.
* Manage complex pediatric airways and respond rapidly to difficult ventilation or intubation scenarios.
* Monitor cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and metabolic status throughout procedures.
* Apply advanced monitoring technologies where clinically indicated for high-risk pediatric cases.
* Manage perioperative fluid therapy, analgesia, temperature control, and medication dosing according to pediatric requirements.
* Provide anesthesia support for urgent and emergency pediatric procedures.
* Coordinate safe transfer and recovery following anesthesia, including post-anesthesia care unit management.
* Recognize and treat perioperative complications including airway obstruction, hemodynamic instability, allergic reactions, respiratory compromise, and other acute events.
* Participate in pediatric code blue, resuscitation, and critical care response teams.

* Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, junior anesthetists, and other developing clinical staff.

* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited residency training in Anesthesiology.
* Fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCP, or another recognized equivalent qualification.
* Minimum 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric anesthesia.
* Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Strong experience providing anesthesia to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
* Proven competence in pediatric airway management and perioperative crisis response.
