Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist will provide advanced anesthesia care for pediatric patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures. The position requires strong perioperative judgment, crisis management skills, and the ability to work closely with surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, individualized, and family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing surgical, diagnostic, elective, and emergency procedures.
* Develop individualized anesthetic plans based on medical history, age, weight, surgical requirements, airway risk, and perioperative assessment.
* Monitor and manage pediatric patients throughout the perioperative journey, including induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia recovery.
* Support pediatric code blue calls, emergency response situations, and critical care cases when anesthesia expertise is required.
* Supervise junior anesthetists, residents, fellows, and clinical staff involved in pediatric anesthesia services.
* Collaborate with pediatric surgeons, intensivists, neonatologists, emergency physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to support coordinated care.
* Use advanced monitoring and anesthesia technologies to maintain patient safety during high-risk pediatric procedures.
* Participate in departmental teaching, simulation training, case reviews, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Ensure anesthesia practice follows SCFHS regulations, hospital policies, infection control procedures, and recognized international safety standards.
* Contribute to clinical research, continuing medical education, and academic development within pediatric anesthesia services.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Completed residency training in Anesthesiology.
* Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
* Board certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCP, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
* Minimum 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric anesthesia.
* Eligible for Consultant classification by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
* Strong experience with neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent anesthesia cases.
* Exposure to pediatric intensive care or neonatal intensive care settings is preferred.
* Proficiency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
* Strong communication, crisis management, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
