Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Anesthesiology will deliver high-quality anesthesia services for children across elective, emergency, surgical, diagnostic, and critical care settings. The role requires careful pre-anesthetic assessment, individualized anesthetic planning, advanced intraoperative monitoring, post-anesthesia recovery management, and close collaboration with surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and pediatric subspecialists. The consultant will also support pediatric code blue response, simulation training, departmental governance, and continuous improvement in pediatric anesthesia outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive anesthesia care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
* Conduct detailed pre-anesthetic assessments, review medical history, evaluate perioperative risk, and prepare safe anesthesia plans.
* Develop individualized anesthetic strategies based on patient age, clinical condition, surgical needs, airway risk, and procedural complexity.
* Monitor and manage pediatric patients throughout the perioperative period, including induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia recovery.
* Support anesthesia care for diagnostic, surgical, emergency, and high-risk pediatric procedures.
* Participate in pediatric code blue response, resuscitation support, and critical care response teams when required.
* Work closely with pediatric surgeons, intensivists, neonatologists, anesthesiology teams, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Supervise and mentor junior anesthetists, residents, fellows, and clinical staff involved in pediatric perioperative care.
* Apply advanced monitoring, anesthesia technology, airway management practices, and safety protocols during pediatric procedures.
* Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies, clinical governance standards, and patient safety requirements.
* Contribute to departmental teaching, simulation training, case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audits.
* Engage in clinical research, continuing medical education, and evidence-based updates in pediatric anesthesia practice.
* Maintain accurate anesthesia records, consent documentation, medication records, recovery notes, and clinical reports.
* Communicate clearly with families regarding anesthesia plans, perioperative risks, recovery expectations, and safety measures.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification.
* Completed residency training in Anesthesiology.
* Fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
* Board certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCP, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Minimum 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric anesthesia.
* Eligibility for consultant-level licensing with the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
* Experience in neonatal anesthesia, pediatric intensive care, or high-risk pediatric surgical settings will be an advantage.
* Familiarity with advanced monitoring systems, pediatric airway management, anesthesia technologies, and perioperative safety standards.
* Strong crisis management, communication, clinical judgment, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Proficiency in English is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
