Consultant - Pediatric Cardiac ICU in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a highly specialized Hospital and Health Care opportunity for an experienced pediatric cardiac intensivist with strong expertise in congenital heart disease, post-operative cardiac ICU care, ECMO, advanced ventilation, and complex pediatric cardiac emergencies. This role is designed for a consultant-level physician who can support and help lead a Pediatric Cardiac ICU while delivering safe, advanced, family-centered critical care for neonates, infants, and children.
The position requires deep experience in pediatric cardiac intensive care, multidisciplinary leadership, critical decision-making, and coordination of care for patients undergoing congenital heart surgery, interventional cardiology procedures, and high-acuity cardiac treatment. The consultant will work closely with pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and allied health teams to improve clinical outcomes and service quality.

Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Cardiac ICU provides expert clinical leadership for critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including neonates and children with congenital or acquired heart disease. The role focuses on pre-operative stabilization, post-operative recovery after congenital heart surgery, management of cardiac emergencies, and advanced life-support care in a high-acuity PCICU environment.
This position has direct impact on survival, recovery quality, family confidence, and long-term pediatric cardiac outcomes. The consultant will guide daily rounds, coordinate complex treatment plans, support service development, and contribute to clinical pathways that strengthen pediatric cardiac intensive care delivery in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive critical care management for neonates, infants, and children with congenital and acquired heart disease.
* Manage pre-operative stabilization and optimization for pediatric cardiac surgical patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced support.
* Lead post-operative care following congenital heart surgery, including hemodynamic management, ventilation support, rhythm monitoring, pain control, and complication prevention.
* Care for patients undergoing interventional cardiology procedures, including pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure monitoring, and escalation of care when needed.
* Diagnose and manage pediatric heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, pulmonary hypertension, low cardiac output states, and complex cardiac emergencies.
* Oversee ECMO support, mechanical ventilation, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive therapy, sedation strategies, and critical care interventions.
* Lead daily Pediatric Cardiac ICU rounds and coordinate multidisciplinary care plans with cardiology, cardiac surgery, anesthesia, perfusion, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and allied health teams.
* Interpret and apply complex clinical data, including echocardiography findings, hemodynamic studies, laboratory trends, cardiac imaging, and post-operative monitoring results.
* Provide on-call coverage for urgent pediatric cardiac emergencies and support time-sensitive clinical decision-making.
* Contribute to the strategic development, expansion, and quality improvement of the Pediatric Cardiac ICU service.
* Develop and update clinical pathways, protocols, escalation frameworks, safety standards, and evidence-based care processes.
* Mentor junior physicians, fellows, residents, critical care nurses, and clinical staff involved in pediatric cardiac intensive care.
* Communicate complex medical information clearly and compassionately to families, supporting shared decision-making, care planning, and post-discharge expectations.
* Participate in research, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, institutional quality projects, CME programs, and academic teaching.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, or Pediatric Anesthesiology.
* Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care is required.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level practice in a high-volume pediatric cardiac center.
* Active DHA consultant license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Strong expertise in congenital heart disease, post-operative cardiac ICU care, pediatric cardiac emergencies, ECMO, mechanical ventilation, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
* Proven ability to lead high-acuity PCICU rounds, guide multidisciplinary teams, and manage complex cases under pressure.
* Strong communication skills for family counselling, clinical handovers, team leadership, academic teaching, and professional collaboration.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
