Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist is responsible for delivering life-saving critical care to pediatric cardiac patients requiring advanced monitoring, surgical recovery support, and intensive multidisciplinary treatment. This role strengthens the Pediatric Cardiac ICU by leading clinical decision-making, supporting surgical recovery pathways, and driving excellence in pediatric cardiac critical care services.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive intensive care management for neonates, infants, and children with congenital and acquired cardiac conditions
* Manage pre-operative stabilization and optimization for pediatric cardiac surgery patients
* Deliver post-operative critical care following congenital heart surgeries and complex interventional cardiology procedures
* Treat patients with heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, and complex congenital heart disease
* Utilize ECMO, mechanical ventilation, vasoactive support, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring for critically ill cardiac patients
* Lead daily multidisciplinary PCICU rounds and coordinate individualized patient care plans
* Interpret echocardiography findings, hemodynamic studies, invasive monitoring data, and advanced cardiac imaging
* Provide emergency on-call coverage for pediatric cardiac critical care cases
* Collaborate closely with pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and specialized nursing teams
* Mentor junior physicians, fellows, and intensive care nursing staff while supporting continuous education
* Participate in protocol development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance programs
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution with specialist training in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, or Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Intensive Care or related subspecialty
* Extensive consultant-level experience in Pediatric Cardiac ICU management within tertiary-care hospitals
* Strong expertise in congenital heart disease and post-cardiac surgery intensive care
* Advanced knowledge of ECMO, ventilator management, and invasive hemodynamic monitoring
* Proven leadership ability within multidisciplinary critical care teams
* Excellent communication and family-centered patient management skills
* Commitment to clinical excellence, quality improvement, and pediatric patient safety
