Role Context
The
Consultant Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon will provide highly specialized surgical and long-term reconstructive care for children with abnormalities of the skull, face, and related structures. The role combines detailed diagnosis, staged surgical planning, complex reconstruction, functional restoration, and aesthetic improvement throughout childhood development. By working closely with neurosurgery, plastic surgery, ENT, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, and other disciplines, the consultant will help improve appearance, airway function, feeding, speech, neurological protection, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired craniofacial abnormalities in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Perform complex reconstructive procedures for craniosynostosis and associated skull deformities.
* Manage cleft-related craniofacial deformities requiring advanced surgical correction.
* Assess and treat facial asymmetry arising from congenital, developmental, traumatic, or acquired causes.
* Perform pediatric craniofacial trauma reconstruction to restore facial structure, function, and appearance.
* Treat congenital skull and facial abnormalities using individualized reconstructive approaches.
* Participate in pediatric skull and craniofacial procedures requiring close collaboration with neurosurgical teams.
* Provide inpatient consultations for children requiring surgical assessment, postoperative management, or complex multidisciplinary care.
* Conduct outpatient craniofacial clinics for diagnosis, treatment planning, postoperative review, and long-term surveillance.
* Develop staged reconstructive treatment plans that account for growth, development, function, appearance, and future surgical needs.
* Coordinate surgical timing with pediatric growth milestones and associated medical or developmental requirements.
* Participate actively in multidisciplinary craniofacial clinics and pre-operative planning conferences.
* Collaborate with neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, ENT specialists, orthodontists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Review CT, MRI, three-dimensional imaging, dental assessment, and other diagnostic findings relevant to craniofacial planning.
* Counsel parents and families regarding diagnosis, operative options, expected outcomes, surgical risks, recovery, and future treatment stages.
* Monitor postoperative healing and identify complications that may require additional intervention.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, and long-term follow-up records.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement activities, and surgical governance.
* Contribute to teaching, research, case presentations, publications, and continuing medical education programs.
* Ensure adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based surgical standards.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or Fellowship in Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery, or an equivalent relevant specialty.
* Appropriate UAE Consultant License or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric craniofacial surgery.
* Experience within a tertiary-care, academic, or specialist children\'s hospital is strongly preferred.
* Advanced expertise in craniosynostosis correction and complex craniofacial reconstruction.
