The Consultant - Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery will provide highly specialized surgical care for children with congenital and acquired craniofacial conditions that affect function, appearance, breathing, feeding, speech development, skull growth, and long-term quality of life. The role requires excellent surgical judgment, careful family counselling, coordinated treatment planning, and strong multidisciplinary collaboration. In Dubai’s advanced healthcare market, this position supports complex pediatric reconstructive services, safer surgical pathways, improved patient outcomes, and long-term care planning for children with craniofacial needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired craniofacial conditions in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Perform complex pediatric craniofacial procedures including craniosynostosis correction, craniofacial reconstruction, cleft-related deformity correction, facial asymmetry surgery, trauma reconstruction, and congenital skull or facial abnormality repair.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for pediatric craniofacial surgery cases, referrals, second opinions, and long-term follow-up.
* Develop individualized treatment plans that address functional outcomes, reconstructive goals, surgical timing, family expectations, and staged care needs.
* Collaborate with neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, ENT specialists, orthodontists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Participate in craniofacial multidisciplinary clinics, surgical planning meetings, complex case reviews, and coordinated care pathways.
* Evaluate imaging, clinical findings, developmental needs, airway risks, dental-facial alignment, speech concerns, and reconstructive requirements before surgery.
* Educate patients and families about diagnosis, surgical options, expected outcomes, operative risks, recovery planning, postoperative care, and long-term monitoring.
* Provide safe postoperative care coordination, including wound review, complication monitoring, pain management, rehabilitation planning, and follow-up scheduling.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, multidisciplinary plans, discharge input, and regulatory medical documentation.
* Ensure clinical practice follows patient safety standards, infection control protocols, surgical quality guidelines, UAE healthcare regulations, and hospital policies.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality-improvement initiatives, research, teaching, and continuing medical education.
* Support junior doctors, surgical trainees, nurses, and allied health staff through mentorship, case discussion, and clinical supervision.
* Contribute to service development for pediatric craniofacial care, cleft programs, reconstructive pathways, and multidisciplinary pediatric surgical standards.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, or Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery.
* Valid DOH Consultant License or eligibility letter in the relevant specialty is preferred.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric craniofacial surgery within a tertiary care or academic hospital setting.
* Strong expertise in pediatric craniofacial reconstructive and corrective surgical procedures.
* Experience managing craniosynostosis, cleft-related craniofacial deformities, facial asymmetry, congenital skull abnormalities, and pediatric craniofacial trauma.
