Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency Medicine provides senior clinical care for children presenting with urgent, acute, traumatic, infectious, respiratory, surgical, and life-threatening conditions. The role involves immediate assessment, triage decision-making, resuscitation leadership, emergency treatment planning, and coordination with pediatric subspecialties for ongoing care.
This position has direct impact on emergency department outcomes, child safety, family confidence, and timely escalation of critical cases. The consultant will also support clinical governance, training, audit activity, research, documentation standards, and continuous improvement in pediatric emergency services.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-standard emergency care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute illness, injury, trauma, or clinical deterioration.
* Manage pediatric medical and surgical emergencies, including trauma, infectious disease, respiratory distress, sepsis, dehydration, seizures, abdominal emergencies, and acute pain presentations.
* Lead multidisciplinary resuscitation teams during critical pediatric emergencies, cardiac arrest, shock, severe respiratory compromise, and trauma activation.
* Support complex triage decisions, early risk identification, emergency stabilization, and timely referral to pediatric ICU or specialist services.
* Perform and supervise emergency procedures in line with pediatric emergency medicine standards and patient safety requirements.
* Collaborate with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, anesthesia, laboratory teams, radiology, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated emergency care.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied health professionals in pediatric emergency protocols, resuscitation pathways, and safe clinical practice.
* Contribute to emergency medicine training programs, simulation activity, clinical audits, research, quality improvement, and case reviews.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, emergency records, procedure notes, discharge plans, and handover summaries in line with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
* Ensure compliance with international hospital standards, clinical governance frameworks, infection control, patient safety protocols, and evidence-based pediatric emergency care.
* Communicate clearly with families during emergency situations, explaining clinical condition, treatment priorities, risks, next steps, and follow-up requirements with compassion.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent with completion of pediatric and emergency medicine training.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, such as American Board, UK CCT, or equivalent.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialty clinical experience, preferably in tertiary-care hospitals or high-volume pediatric emergency departments.
* Strong expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, acute medical emergencies, respiratory distress, complex triage, emergency stabilization, and family-centered pediatric care.
* Demonstrated leadership ability in high-pressure, fast-paced emergency environments.
* Experience with pediatric emergency care models, trauma systems, clinical innovation, EMR systems, and international hospital standards is preferred.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are advantageous.
* Strong communication, teaching, teamwork, documentation, and clinical decision-making skills.
