The position requires strong expertise in pediatric trauma, acute medical and surgical emergencies, respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, emergency procedures, clinical leadership, and multidisciplinary coordination within a tertiary-care pediatric emergency setting.

Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency Medicine provides expert clinical care for children who require urgent assessment, rapid decision-making, emergency treatment, and safe escalation when needed. The role involves managing acute illness, trauma, resuscitation cases, procedural sedation, emergency procedures, and complex pediatric presentations while maintaining calm, clear communication with families.
This position has direct impact on patient safety, emergency department performance, clinical outcomes, and family confidence. The consultant will also contribute to pediatric emergency service development, quality improvement, clinical governance, teaching, research, and the continuous strengthening of child-focused emergency pathways.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive emergency assessment and management for infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute medical, surgical, traumatic, and critical conditions.
* Manage pediatric emergencies including respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, trauma, acute pain, shock, and clinical deterioration.
* Lead pediatric resuscitation efforts, including advanced airway management, vascular access, life-saving interventions, and emergency stabilization.
* Perform emergency procedures such as lumbar puncture, fracture reduction, splinting, wound repair, procedural sedation, and urgent bedside interventions.
* Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists, surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, radiology teams, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Support safe and efficient patient flow within the Pediatric Emergency Department through accurate triage decisions, timely treatment, and clear escalation pathways.
* Develop and update clinical pathways, pediatric emergency guidelines, resuscitation protocols, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, governance meetings, case reviews, and patient safety activities.
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, emergency nurses, and clinical staff in pediatric emergency practice, procedures, and resuscitation standards.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge instructions, warning signs, and follow-up requirements clearly and compassionately to families.
* Promote a child-friendly, culturally sensitive emergency care environment that supports families during stressful and critical situations.
* Participate in teaching activities, clinical research, case presentations, CME programs, conferences, and community health initiatives.
* Maintain accurate emergency records, procedure notes, consent documentation, discharge plans, and referral summaries in line with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with PEM fellowship, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric specialization.
* Recognized qualification may include American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level pediatric emergency medicine practice.
* Strong clinical expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, acute pediatric illness, emergency stabilization, and time-sensitive decision-making.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure emergency settings.
* Excellent communication, family counselling, clinical documentation, teaching, and teamwork skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
