Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency Medicine will provide expert care for children requiring immediate evaluation, stabilization, and emergency intervention. The position plays a key role in managing pediatric trauma, acute medical emergencies, surgical emergencies, respiratory distress, sepsis, shock, and other time-sensitive conditions. Working within a fast-paced emergency department, the consultant will guide multidisciplinary response, supervise junior staff, and help strengthen patient safety and emergency preparedness standards in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage pediatric emergency cases involving acute medical illness, surgical emergencies, trauma, respiratory compromise, shock, sepsis, and life-threatening presentations.
* Provide immediate resuscitation and advanced emergency care for critically ill or injured infants, children, and adolescents.
* Perform emergency procedures including airway management, intubation, lumbar puncture, procedural sedation, trauma assessment, vascular access support, and acute stabilization.
* Lead pediatric emergency decision-making during high-pressure situations while ensuring timely escalation and specialist referral when needed.
* Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists, intensivists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated emergency care.
* Supervise and support junior doctors, residents, and emergency department staff during assessment, resuscitation, procedures, and patient handover.
* Ensure medical documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with DOH regulations, hospital policies, and clinical governance standards.
* Participate in emergency preparedness planning, disaster management activities, code response systems, and departmental quality improvement programs.
* Support clinical audits, teaching sessions, research activities, morbidity reviews, and continuing medical education initiatives.
* Maintain high standards of infection control, patient safety, risk management, and evidence-based pediatric emergency care.
* Contribute to service improvement by identifying workflow gaps, improving emergency protocols, and supporting safer patient pathways.
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with parents and caregivers during urgent, stressful, or critical care situations.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
* Board certification or fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric emergency specialization.
* Valid DOH Consultant License or DOH Eligibility Letter in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric emergency medicine within a tertiary care hospital.
* Strong expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma management, emergency procedures, and critical emergency care.
* Certification in PALS, ACLS, and ATLS is preferred.
* Experience in pediatric trauma centers, academic hospitals, or high-volume emergency departments will be an advantage.
* Exposure to pediatric critical care, emergency preparedness, and disaster medicine is preferred.
* Teaching, research, clinical audit, or academic involvement will strengthen the profile.
* Excellent communication, leadership, clinical judgment, and rapid decision-making skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multicultural healthcare environment.
* Strong commitment to patient-centered care, infection control, documentation quality, and pediatric emergency safety standards.
