Role Context

The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency Medicine will provide expert emergency assessment, stabilization, treatment, and escalation for pediatric patients presenting with acute medical, surgical, trauma, infectious, respiratory, neurological, allergic, and critical care emergencies. The role combines hands-on clinical care with leadership in patient flow, emergency protocols, clinical pathways, team mentoring, and family communication. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric emergency services in Dubai by promoting safe resuscitation practice, efficient emergency department operations, child-friendly care, and high-quality clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide comprehensive emergency assessment and management for infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute medical, surgical, and trauma conditions.
* Diagnose and manage pediatric emergencies including respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, injuries, abdominal emergencies, and critical deterioration.
* Lead pediatric resuscitation efforts, including advanced airway management, vascular access, fluid resuscitation, medication administration, and life-saving interventions.
* Perform emergency procedures such as lumbar puncture, fracture reduction, splinting, wound repair, procedural sedation, and other approved pediatric emergency procedures.
* Stabilize critically ill pediatric patients and coordinate timely escalation to intensive care, surgery, subspecialty teams, or inpatient services.
* Ensure safe and efficient patient flow within the Pediatric Emergency Department through triage support, clinical prioritization, discharge planning, and coordinated handovers.
* Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists, surgeons, intensivists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare teams.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, procedure needs, risks, discharge instructions, and follow-up guidance clearly and compassionately to families.
* Support families during high-stress situations, emergency decision-making, and critical care transitions.
* Contribute to the strategic development of pediatric emergency services through pathway design, protocol updates, workflow improvement, and departmental planning.
* Develop and update clinical guidelines for pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, acute illness management, procedural sedation, and emergency escalation.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement projects, governance meetings, and patient safety initiatives.
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, nurses, and emergency department staff through bedside teaching, simulation training, and case-based learning.
* Participate in academic teaching, clinical research, case presentations, CME programs, conferences, and community health initiatives.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, procedure notes, consent records, discharge summaries, referral notes, and follow-up instructions in line with DHA and hospital standards.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric specialization.
* Recognized specialist qualification such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent.
* Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority Consultant licensure.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level practice.
* Strong clinical expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, acute illness management, emergency procedures, and critical stabilization.
* Proven ability to manage high-acuity pediatric emergency presentations in a tertiary-care or advanced hospital setting.
* Experience contributing to pediatric emergency department leadership, quality improvement, clinical pathways, and governance activities.
* Strong communication, leadership, decision-making, teaching, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to support families with empathy, clarity, cultural sensitivity, and calm clinical guidance during stressful situations.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
* Commitment to patient safety, child-friendly care, evidence-based emergency medicine, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.
