Role Context

The Consultant Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician will provide rapid assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment for critically ill or injured pediatric patients in a fast-paced emergency care environment. The role is vital for improving pediatric emergency outcomes by leading resuscitation teams, supporting safe triage decisions, coordinating urgent multidisciplinary care, and applying international standards in clinical documentation, patient safety, and emergency protocols. The consultant will also contribute to training, audits, quality improvement, and service development within a tertiary pediatric emergency setting.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver high-standard emergency care to pediatric patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute illness or injury.
* Manage pediatric medical and surgical emergencies including trauma, respiratory distress, sepsis, infectious disease, dehydration, seizures, allergic reactions, abdominal emergencies, and acute deterioration.
* Lead multidisciplinary pediatric resuscitation teams during cardiac arrest, shock, severe trauma, respiratory failure, and other critical presentations.
* Support complex triage decisions by assessing acuity, risk factors, clinical urgency, and appropriate care pathways.
* Perform emergency assessments, stabilization, airway support coordination, procedural sedation where applicable, and urgent treatment planning.
* Collaborate with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, laboratory teams, radiology, anesthesiology, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and other emergency care professionals.
* Provide clear guidance to families during stressful emergency situations, including diagnosis, treatment plans, escalation needs, and follow-up instructions.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied health professionals in pediatric emergency protocols, resuscitation workflows, triage standards, and safe documentation.
* Contribute to emergency department training programs, simulation learning, case reviews, audits, and research activities where applicable.
* Ensure compliance with MOH, JCIA, hospital policies, clinical documentation standards, infection control protocols, and patient safety procedures.
* Maintain accurate emergency records, triage notes, procedure documentation, medication records, handover notes, discharge plans, and referral details.
* Participate in clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews, departmental improvement projects, and continuing medical education activities.
* Help strengthen pediatric emergency care models, trauma workflows, escalation pathways, and family-centered emergency service delivery.

Ideal Profile

* Medical Degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Completion of pediatric and emergency medicine training.
* Board Certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine such as American Board, UK CCT, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Valid professional licensure or eligibility for Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Consultant classification.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialty clinical experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
* Previous experience in tertiary hospitals, pediatric emergency departments, trauma centers, or internationally accredited healthcare facilities is preferred.
* Strong ability to manage pediatric trauma, respiratory emergencies, infectious disease presentations, acute medical deterioration, and high-acuity pediatric resuscitation.
* Demonstrated leadership in high-pressure, fast-paced emergency care environments.
* Proven contribution to pediatric emergency care models, trauma systems, clinical innovation, audit activity, or quality improvement will be an advantage.
* Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and international hospital standards.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
* Strong communication, family counseling, decision-making, teamwork, and clinical prioritization skills.
* Culturally competent and family-centered approach to pediatric emergency care.
