Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency will provide expert emergency assessment, stabilization, and treatment for pediatric patients presenting with acute illness, trauma, surgical emergencies, respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, and other urgent conditions. The role carries strong clinical and leadership responsibility, requiring the consultant to guide emergency teams, coordinate with pediatric subspecialists, improve patient flow, mentor junior staff, and help strengthen pediatric emergency services in Dubai through safe, evidence-based, and family-centered medical care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide rapid assessment, diagnosis, and emergency management for infants, children, and adolescents with acute medical, surgical, and trauma-related presentations.
* Lead pediatric resuscitation cases, including advanced airway management, vascular access, stabilization, and life-saving emergency interventions.
* Treat critical pediatric conditions such as respiratory distress, seizures, severe dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, shock, and trauma emergencies.
* Perform emergency procedures including lumbar puncture, fracture reduction, splinting, wound repair, procedural sedation, and other urgent clinical interventions.
* Coordinate care with pediatric intensivists, surgeons, pediatric subspecialists, emergency physicians, nurses, radiology teams, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Support safe and efficient patient flow within the Pediatric Emergency Department while maintaining clinical quality and patient safety.
* Develop and update clinical pathways, emergency protocols, departmental guidelines, and evidence-based care standards.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, governance meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, nurses, and emergency department staff through bedside teaching and structured clinical guidance.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, risk factors, and follow-up instructions clearly and compassionately to families.
* Support parents and caregivers during high-stress emergency situations, critical decisions, and complex pediatric care discussions.
* Participate in academic teaching, clinical research, case presentations, CME programs, conferences, and community health activities.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent qualification from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric specialization.
* Recognized qualification such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or an equivalent consultant-level credential.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level practice in pediatric emergency care.
* Strong clinical expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma management, acute care, airway support, emergency procedures, and critical stabilization.
* Experience working in a tertiary-care hospital, pediatric emergency department, or high-acuity emergency medicine setting.
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams during urgent and complex pediatric cases.
* Strong communication skills with children, parents, caregivers, consultants, nurses, and hospital leadership teams.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
