Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Emergency will provide advanced emergency care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute illness, trauma, respiratory distress, infectious disease, surgical emergencies, and complex triage needs. The role requires strong clinical judgment, calm leadership during resuscitation, accurate documentation, and close collaboration with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, laboratory services, nursing teams, and allied healthcare professionals. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric emergency services in Riyadh through evidence-based care, training, quality improvement, and compliance with MOH and JCIA standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-standard emergency care to pediatric patients, from neonates through adolescents, across a wide range of acute presentations.
* Assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage pediatric medical and surgical emergencies in a fast-paced emergency department.
* Manage trauma cases, infectious disease presentations, respiratory distress, dehydration, seizures, allergic reactions, shock, and other urgent pediatric conditions.
* Lead multidisciplinary resuscitation teams during critical emergencies and support structured decision-making in complex triage cases.
* Coordinate care with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, emergency physicians, laboratory teams, radiology, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Provide timely escalation, referral, admission, transfer, or discharge planning based on clinical need and patient safety.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied health staff in pediatric emergency protocols, resuscitation standards, and acute care workflows.
* Contribute to training programs, simulation sessions, clinical case reviews, audits, and research activities where applicable.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, procedure notes, handover records, and emergency care plans.
* Ensure compliance with MOH requirements, JCIA standards, hospital policies, patient safety procedures, and clinical governance expectations.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on emergency response, patient flow, triage accuracy, clinical outcomes, and service efficiency.
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with families during stressful emergency situations, explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent recognized qualification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with emergency medicine experience, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric specialization.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in pediatric emergency care, preferably within a tertiary-care or high-acuity hospital setting.
* Strong clinical expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, acute medical emergencies, respiratory distress, infectious disease management, and emergency stabilization.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams during critical cases and complex triage situations.
* Experience working with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, laboratory services, radiology, and emergency nursing teams.
* Knowledge of MOH requirements, JCIA standards, clinical governance, and hospital documentation procedures.
* Strong mentoring ability with experience supporting junior physicians, residents, and allied health professionals.
* Excellent communication skills with children, families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
