Role Context

The Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist will provide specialized care for children and adolescents with hormonal, metabolic, growth-related, and diabetes-related conditions. The role supports early diagnosis, long-term disease control, family education, and improved developmental outcomes for young patients requiring structured endocrine follow-up. Working within a multidisciplinary pediatric team, the consultant will coordinate care with pediatricians, geneticists, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, diabetes educators, and other specialists while contributing to quality improvement, academic activity, and evidence-based pediatric endocrinology services.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage pediatric endocrine disorders including diabetes mellitus, growth disorders, thyroid diseases, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, obesity, metabolic bone diseases, and congenital endocrine conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive endocrine evaluations using medical history, growth charts, physical examination, pubertal assessment, laboratory findings, imaging studies, and endocrine function tests.
* Develop individualized treatment plans for infants, children, and adolescents based on diagnosis, age, disease severity, family needs, and long-term health goals.
* Manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents, including insulin therapy, glucose monitoring review, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and family education.
* Provide specialized care for puberty disorders, growth hormone deficiency, short stature, delayed puberty, precocious puberty, adrenal conditions, pituitary disease, and metabolic bone disorders.
* Interpret laboratory investigations, hormonal assays, dynamic endocrine tests, imaging reports, growth data, and metabolic results to support accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, geneticists, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, diabetes educators, radiologists, and other specialists to deliver coordinated pediatric endocrine care.
* Educate patients and families on disease management, medication adherence, insulin use, glucose monitoring, lifestyle modification, nutrition, emergency planning, and follow-up requirements.
* Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, pediatric diabetes programs, endocrine case discussions, and coordinated treatment planning for complex patients.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals involved in pediatric endocrine care.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, research activities, teaching programs, publications, and continuing medical education.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, treatment plans, investigation reviews, medication records, diabetes care notes, family education records, and follow-up reports in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
* Support patient safety, ethical practice, confidentiality, evidence-based care, and child-centered communication in all pediatric endocrine services.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from an accredited institution.
* Board Certification in Pediatrics.
* Fellowship or subspecialty certification in Pediatric Endocrinology.
* Eligibility for licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
* Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as a Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist.
* Extensive experience managing pediatric diabetes and complex endocrine disorders.
* Strong knowledge of pediatric growth, puberty, thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, obesity, metabolic bone, and congenital endocrine conditions.
* Experience with insulin therapy, continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pump therapy, and advanced diabetes technologies will be an advantage.
* Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent is preferred.
* Previous experience in tertiary-care children’s hospitals or academic medical centers is highly valued.
* Research, teaching, publication, or academic contribution in Pediatric Endocrinology will be an advantage.
* Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, family counseling ability, and evidence-based practice approach.
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric healthcare teams.
* Commitment to accurate documentation, continuous professional development, ethical care, and patient-centered service delivery.
