Role Context

The Consultant - Pediatric Endocrinology will provide advanced clinical care within a tertiary pediatric subspecialty service, supporting both acute consultations and long-term management for children with complex endocrine and metabolic conditions. The role includes inpatient support for NICU, PICU, and general pediatrics, outpatient clinic leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, family education, protocol development, research, and mentoring of clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage pediatric endocrine disorders, including Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, growth disorders, short stature, thyroid disease, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, and puberty-related abnormalities.
* Provide specialist care for children with metabolic bone disease, calcium and phosphate disorders, congenital endocrine abnormalities, obesity-related endocrine concerns, and complex metabolic presentations.
* Deliver inpatient consultations for NICU, PICU, emergency, and general pediatric teams requiring pediatric endocrine input.
* Manage outpatient clinics for chronic endocrine conditions, long-term follow-up, medication monitoring, and developmental care planning.
* Interpret endocrine laboratory investigations, dynamic hormone testing, growth data, imaging studies, glucose profiles, and relevant metabolic results.
* Participate in multidisciplinary clinics such as diabetes, obesity, genetics, growth, metabolic, and complex pediatric care services.
* Develop individualized treatment plans covering insulin therapy, hormone replacement, growth hormone therapy, lifestyle modification, monitoring schedules, and family education.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, risks, long-term expectations, and care plans clearly and compassionately to children, parents, and caregivers.
* Support families in managing chronic endocrine disorders, diabetes technologies, growth monitoring, hormone therapy, and complex follow-up pathways.
* Contribute to the development and expansion of pediatric endocrine services within the hospital.
* Develop and update clinical pathways, departmental guidelines, patient safety standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, case discussions, clinical governance, and service improvement activities.
* Mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied health professionals involved in pediatric endocrine care.
* Participate in clinical research, institutional review activities, case studies, CME programs, teaching sessions, and medical conferences.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Pediatrics with fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology.
* Recognized qualification such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent specialist certification.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level pediatric endocrinology practice.
* Strong expertise in managing complex endocrine and metabolic disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Proven experience in pediatric diabetes management, growth disorders, puberty-related abnormalities, thyroid disease, adrenal disease, pituitary disorders, and metabolic bone conditions.
* Experience working in tertiary-care hospitals, academic medical centers, or advanced pediatric subspecialty programs is preferred.
* Ability to lead multidisciplinary clinics and collaborate with pediatrics, neonatology, intensive care, genetics, dietetics, nursing, and allied health teams.
* Strong leadership skills with experience in service development, clinical governance, protocol creation, and quality improvement.
* Excellent communication and counselling skills for supporting children and families through long-term endocrine care.
* Teaching, academic involvement, clinical research, or conference participation will be an advantage.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
* Commitment to patient safety, evidence-based medicine, compassionate care, and continuous professional development.
