Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Endocrinology will provide specialist care for infants, children, and adolescents with hormonal and metabolic disorders that affect growth, development, puberty, weight, diabetes control, bone health, and long-term wellbeing. The role requires accurate clinical assessment, careful interpretation of endocrine investigations, patient-centered counselling, and close collaboration with pediatricians, geneticists, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, and other specialists. By guiding complex endocrine care pathways and supporting families through chronic disease management, the consultant will help improve outcomes for children with both common and rare endocrine conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric endocrine disorders including Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, growth disorders, thyroid disease, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, obesity, congenital endocrine conditions, puberty disorders, and metabolic bone diseases.
* Conduct comprehensive endocrine evaluations using medical history, physical examination, growth data, laboratory investigations, imaging studies, endocrine function tests, and clinical risk assessment.
* Develop individualized treatment plans for children and adolescents requiring hormonal therapy, diabetes care, growth monitoring, metabolic management, or long-term endocrine follow-up.
* Manage pediatric diabetes care including insulin therapy, continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pump therapy, lifestyle education, complication prevention, and family training.
* Provide specialist care for growth hormone deficiency, delayed or early puberty, congenital adrenal conditions, thyroid dysfunction, pituitary disease, and complex metabolic presentations.
* Interpret endocrine laboratory results, stimulation tests, hormonal profiles, imaging reports, genetic findings, growth charts, and diabetes technology data.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, geneticists, dietitians, psychologists, diabetes educators, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
* Educate patients and families on disease management, medication adherence, insulin use, glucose monitoring, nutrition, lifestyle modification, warning signs, and long-term follow-up needs.
* Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, complex case discussions, endocrine care planning meetings, and coordinated pediatric service pathways.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals involved in pediatric endocrine care.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, research activity, teaching, continuing medical education, and pediatric endocrinology service development.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, consultation notes, treatment plans, medication records, test interpretations, family education notes, and follow-up reports.
* Ensure clinical practice remains aligned with evidence-based pediatric endocrine guidelines, hospital policies, patient safety standards, ethical care, and applicable healthcare regulations.
* Stay updated with advances in pediatric endocrinology, diabetes technologies, endocrine therapeutics, metabolic disease care, and international best practices.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from an accredited medical institution.
* Board certification in Pediatrics.
* Fellowship or subspecialty certification in Pediatric Endocrinology.
* Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as a Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist.
* Extensive experience managing pediatric diabetes, complex endocrine disorders, growth disorders, thyroid disease, puberty disorders, adrenal and pituitary conditions, obesity, and metabolic bone disease.
* Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent is preferred.
* Experience in tertiary-care children\'s hospitals or academic medical centers is highly desirable.
* Strong experience with insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, and advanced diabetes technologies.
* Research, teaching, audit, or publication experience in Pediatric Endocrinology will be an advantage.
* Strong clinical judgment with an evidence-based and patient-centered approach to diagnosis and treatment.
* Excellent communication, counselling, interpersonal, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to support children, adolescents, and families with empathy, clarity, and long-term care guidance.
